I spent this past weekend in Boston for @transvoiceinitiative’s two-day conference on Gender-Affirming Voice Work. This conference was special because it was led 100% by trans people. It was the largest gathering of trans GAV service providers I’ve ever attended and it really filled my well to be in community with people who share my values and my work.

Thank you so much to @kapilavoice, @transplaining, and all the members of @transvoiceinitiative for your hard work in putting this conference together and thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to speak at this event!

Thank you to @harmonicspeech and @rypilchmanslp for sharing your incredible wisdom and also being amazing roommates for the weekend.

Thank you to @vocalcongruence for the work-wife-level connection. I can’t wait for our next hang!

And thank you to everyone who came up and said hi and told me that you’re using my resources with your clients. It really keeps me going in this work to know that I’m making a tangible difference.

Until we meet again!!!

@transplaining, @kapilavoice, and everyone of @transvoiceinitiative, thank you all for giving me a voice and community that I so rarely get. I am so excited to be part of a team that works so hard to make the world a better place for person-voice alignment 🫶🏳️‍⚧️

It’s such an honor to be included in the 6th edition of Voice Therapy: Clinical Case Studies! I remember this feeling like such a vulnerable exercise for me.

Because of the support from Lauren Timmons-Sund, AC Goldberg, Sandy Hirsch, Jenni Cleary @explorevoicestudios , my spouse, and so many others, I finished it. I am grateful to be included amongst some of the most passionate clinicians in this text.

Neurodivergent individuals are more likely to identify as queer and gender fluid on the spectrum of gender and sexuality.

If we are striving to become neurodiversity affirming therapists, we are also striving to become gender and sexuality affirming.

This means we must defer to queer and trans folks when seeking to demonstrate allyship.

If you’re interested in learning more, follow the accounts tagged in the last slide.

If you yourself are a queer or trans creator or if you have someone in mind you’d like to tag, please leave a comment below.

Happy pride month, gang. We have so much to learn and so much work to do. 🏳️‍🌈

Every single one of these amazing people has inspired me in this work, not to mention the early career professionals who didn't make it into the group pic! I am so proud to have had the chance to speak among them. I am fired up by the energy and power of our next generation. I am so excited to connect with new voice professionals in community. And I am grateful to our allies for centering, platforming and listening to experiences of trans voice professionals and clients.

We are here, we are queer, and we're not going anywhere 🏳️‍⚧️

I can’t fully put into words the relief this ruling brings - honestly, I’m still in shock. I’m deeply grateful to our legal team and to the other plaintiffs in Orr v. Trump - their support has helped keep me grounded every step of the way. This fight isn’t over, and we’re not backing down! 🏳️‍⚧️

Trans and intersex liberation is inextricably linked. The opposition has done their homework to know excluding intersex voices from the conversation enables them to keep gaining ground… It would benefit the queer community to catch up—not just for our sake but everyone’s. In a world that continues to erase us from stories that harm us too, please allow us speak on our own terms. They currently own the narrative but it doesn’t have to be that way, if we all do our part. Mutual solidarity forever, -a

A belated @thefallvoice photo dump 💕

Fall Voice has always punctuated very isolated times in my life. Last year, I was working as an SLP in a middle school, about to move 10 hours to a state I’d never been to for a job at an ENT practice I’d never heard of before. This year, I am now the only SLP at that ENT practice, and while I am very proud of what my patients and I accomplish together, I still feel very lonely at times. Being reunited with my colleagues (especially my fellow neurodivergent SLPs and my lovely friends from New York) and being able to support each other’s new research and career endeavors with such joy makes my cup overflow.

Very grateful for @falalalaholly for encouraging me to pursue research during my CF and holding me accountable throughout the process. I’m always thankful for the chance you gave me while I was in graduate school, and for the supportive mentorship and friendship since.

Not pictured: me and @lianegrasso! From being a sad little patient crying in your office every Friday in 2018 to being your roommate at Fall Voice! Thank you for being a safe space and for putting up with my snoring. 💜

Until next year!
