Chicago marathon 2026

My first ⭐️ & 4th marathon.

Finishing a marathon is always a massive accomplishment but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t upset & disappointed in what happened yesterday.

Months of work for one day & it just wasn’t my day. That’s just the way it is sometimes. I started hot & I knew that would happen because the hype is so good but then slowly was settling into my pace. Unfortunately after my first gel I knew my stomach was off. I’m not sure why because I did the same exact thing I did every week in training.

I’m like ok slow down a lil let it settle, it’s fine you’ve trained for this. By mile 9, my stomach was not happy. I told Avery (we stuck together for 10 miles) that I knew this was gonna get ugly for me.

*I AM NOT SAYING THIS FOR ADVICE I AM SHARING MY EXPERIENCE. YOU MUST LISTEN TO YOUR BODY & MAKE THE CALL. You can disagree with my decision to continue the race but it was MY decision & medicals approval. It’s your race, you make the call that you think is right & I stand by my decision to continue*

By mile 12, I threw up. At that moment I knew I was really in for it. Again beyond pissed because this training block I focused so much on fueling bc I have always had issues with this & I felt like I finally had it. A nice lady handed me some tissues & a water. I started to walk. Now I knew I needed to get more cals in & hydration.

I resume jogging (screw race pace at this point). Down another gel & water, I think ok im good. No I was not good. I continued to get sick until mile 25. I stopped in medical at 15 & sat down with them. I was never dizzy & my body felt strong. Medical cleared me to continue the race but said to continue to hydrate & get cals in & try to hold it in as long as possible.

At this point I’m walking 90% of the last 14 miles. DNF was on my mind for about 4 miles. I went back & forth on it a lot. I felt safe to continue bc I was so aware & felt fine minus my stomach it was in shambles.

Freaking WHAT!!! First world major marathon did NOT disappoint! This experience was beyond incredible!

This training block was different. Last year, I used it as a distraction. This year, I used it as an escape and a pathway to what I needed to find out about myself.
This past year has been by far the worst I’ve ever experienced. Through the winter and spring I was in a place I’ve ever been before, feeling so low that the idea of running was not even an option.
I started my return to running to begin this training block slow and begrudgingly. 18 weeks and each one brought a little more light. I got to remember why I love this sport and who I am when I get to run.

And then, a finish time I never thought would be possible. But more than the time, I’m proud of the person who showed up at that start line. Somewhere in those 18 weeks I started to find myself again and man I’m glad to be here! Do things that make you HAPPY! It’s always worth it 😌

Chicago, thank you 🩵❤️

When @altrarunning invited me to @runningmanfest I didn't know what to expect, from the event AND from the shoes! I'd never seriously run in Altras, and I did NOT think zero drop shoes were for me!

Signed up for the half marathon distance. Half a lap in, I took @jesseitzler's welcome speech to heart & decided I'd go for 16 miles - interval style, 4 sets of 4 x 1 mile laps, focusing on running strong through to the end, recovering strong between sets, and having FUN.

I thought the Olympus 275 Hilo was a 4mm drop, and about halfway through the day @altra_simon informed me that actually no, I was in a ZERO DROP shoe. Cue the shock on my hater ass face. I had exactly the day I wanted: strong, fast when I wanted it to be, and comfortable all the way through...in a zero drop shoe!? GTFO

With its high stack height the Olympus 275 Hilo completely changed my entire perspective and opinion of both Altra and zero / low drop running shoes.

I couldn't have asked for a better story for a sponsored piece with a brand. I'm not swearing off higher drop footwear, but I have to admit I am a believer in a place for low/no drop shoes in my running shoe diet 🙈
