🇮🇹 Exploring the historic heart of Spoleto, Umbria, with a visit to the magnificent Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. But bringing our Roadsurfer motorhome into any large town in Umbria is not sensible. So @park4night is invaluable to find someone to stop and then walk in.

Is this nature at its most spectacular? Cascata delle Marmore, Umbria is a breathtaking waterfall but only sometimes each day

The water is diverted to a hydroelectric plant so the falls only flow on a scheduled daily timetable. I’m glad we checked before we arrived

Another week, another ‘just back from’ missive from me. It’s been quite a run of trips recently!

This time I’ve just returned from a commercial shoot in the Algarve in Portugal. It’ll be a BIG edit which might be in the pipeline for a while.

But in the meantime, here are some pics I took for me in between official tasks.

The light was incredible! I’m sure you’ve heard photographers witter on about the quality of light many a time…but oh it really was a special sight here!

The colours of the rock strata changed as the sun went down and that purple glow once it was well below the horizon, it was all just glorious.

First stop on our truffle hunting trip in Italy was an overnight stay in Ostia Antica. We were overwhelmed to be welcomed by a colour Sardinian festival

And, here’s to Autumn (part II)

🔥Those crackling bonfires, blazing and bright,
Cast fragrant smoke spiralling into the night;
Their savoury plumes rise, curl and climb,
While sparks leap skywards in fiery time.

Indoors, the wood burner hums and glows,
As candlelight dances and warmth overflows;
The casserole simmers, rich and slow,
While amber flames set the hearth aglow.

🍷A hot toddy counters the evening chill,
Red wine gleams ruby, deep and still;
A blanket, a book, a film or two,
With precious spare hours to savour anew 📖 ☕️

Yet underneath these fallen leaves,
The earth lies dark and silence weaves;
Roots hold fast, the seeds lie deep,
While spring’s small promises softly sleep 🌱

So, winter need not bring dismay,
Nor steal the joy from every day;
There’s much to be done, and joy to be found,
And beauty enough in the world all around 🌍

For every season plays its part,
And autumn speaks directly to the heart;
It asks us not to dread the dark,
But find in autumn’s glow, a spark ⚡️

So raise a glass beside the fire,
To amber leaves and autumn’s choir;
To bracing winds and skies aglow,
To all the gifts our seasons bestow.

💎 To crisp, bright mornings, evenings clear,
To simple pleasures held most dear;
To life lived well, come rain or shine,
And toast autumn’s grand design.

Here’s to the autumn, wild and wise,
With russet leaves and flaming skies;
May every season teach us how
To find life’s promise, here and now.

🍁And, here’s to autumn … 🍂 (Part I)

Accustomed to those carefree days,
Of sunlit mornings, golden haze;
To evenings stretched beneath the sun,
We scarcely noticed summer’d run.

🌅 Now dawn arrives in amber fire,
The eastern sky a burning choir;
And as the sinking sun departs,
It spills its rays across our hearts ❤️‍🔥

Tall trees glow russet, bronze and gold,
A blaze of beauty to behold;
Each leaf with dewdrops, crystal-bright,
Gleams in the soft October light ✨

The fallen leaves, in russet showers,
Lie scattered through the woodland bowers;
Their earthy fragrance fills the air,
Bronzed confetti on a woodland stair.

They whisper, rustle, skip and play,
As dancing gusts sweep them away;
Tumbling down each winding street,
Then swirling in eddies at our feet.

Dark indigo clouds gather so bold,
As sunset gilds their edges gold;
Purple peaks rise, majestic and high,
Dusk fans its colours across the sky 🪭

Next chilly winds come sweeping through,
And raindrops bead the window blue 💦
They whisper, tap, then drum again,
In wildly insistent, fresh refrain 🪘

🌊 The salt wind stings and breakers roar,
White horses thunder towards the shore;
The restless sea, in slate and foam,
Sends us in, seeking warmth of home …

Done Angkor Wat? Here's where to go next 🇰🇭

I visited as a guest of G Adventures on a press trip.

Kampong Phluk is a stilted lakeside community on the Tonle Sap, Southeast Asia's largest lake. In the rainy season, the Tonle Sap River reverses its flow and the lake swells to around six times its size. The flooded forests become a vast fish nursery that provides around 60% of Cambodia's protein. Head beyond the village and the lake stretches to the horizon like a freshwater ocean.
