After killing a sparrow out of hunger, the dog cannot bring itself to eat it, overcome by guilt. Torn between reason and instinct, the dog lies beside the bird, reflecting on its actions. However, after falling asleep from exhaustion, the rustling of another bird in the forest gently wakes it. The dog then gives in to its instinct once again, chasing after the bird in an attempt to catch it.
Alongside the animated version of The Chase, a comic version of the work was also published in the Vietnamese comics anthology Người trong muôn loài in 2025.

Happy International Documentary Day!
I’m in the very final stages of finishing Following Pál and just wanna take a moment to give a shout-out to our animator, Triet Le, for his beautiful artistic expression and uncompromising commitment to the pain-staking process of hand-drawn animation. Thank you.

Some chaotic slides of a panel discussion at the Shanghai Book Mall during the trip with the Pro Helvetia masterclass in Shanghai and Hong Kong. They mirror i guess where i stood and stand at the moment.

It was really fun to discover the routines of the other artists.

Triet Le
11:00-11:30 Sketchbook tour
@treatle
Triet Le is a Vietnamese illustrator and animator currently studying Graphic Storytelling at LUCA. He enjoys sketching and painting outside, where he captures the subtleties of everyday life and searches for stories to tell. 🖼🖌

Surprice speakers!

Evert Van der Jonckheyd & Servaas Heirman
11:30-12:00 Graphic book presentation for ‘De Bekeerde Zeerover: Een Waargebeurd Piratenverhaal’
- Evert Van der Jonckheyd
Studied at Sint-Lucas Antwerp from 2009 to 2013. He is very interested in healthy food, lucid dreams and long travels by bike, Evert is still looking for his own place on this planet.🚲🌍 evertvdj@hotmail.com
- Servaas Heirman
After my studies at RITCS in Brussels, I worked more than thirty years for the Flemish public broadcaster VRT. My main interests are history, baroque music, comics and the unbearable lightness of being. De Bekeerde Zeerover is the first passion project I managed to finish, thanks to the symbiotic collaboration with Evert Van der Jonckheyd. 🎶📖🖌

Hari
@greenchromide
12:00-12:30 Comic reading
Hari’s comic, The Garden, is a poetic meandering through the life of a mutant plant that extracts nature’s revenge and takes over a city. The comic was first published in Corniche, an annual anthology of comics published by the Sharjah Art Foundation in 2022.🌿🦠📖

Poorva
@holycowmics
12:30-13:00 Comic reading
The comic I will be reading is called - "objects in the mirror are closer than they appear". A part-autobiographical and part-journalistic graphic novel, about a young Hindu woman confronting the rise of Hindu nationalism in India, grappling with the unsettling reality of an unrecognizable homeland under a totalitarian regime.🙎‍♀️💪🖐

Cecile Broekaert
@cecile.broekaert
13:00- 13:30 Sketchbook tour
Cecile Broekaert’s practice centers on reworking collected images into layered, memory- like compositions through overpainting, scratching, and erasing. Her sketchbooks function as intimate visual diaries where she experiments with color, texture, and imagery that later evolves into her larger works. 🎨🎉

10 years in the making. Had to put a lot of trust in myself but here we are, picture locked!
I’m so proud of my team for reaching this big milestone!
My voice as a filmmaker has matured tremendously with this project and I’m grateful for this journey alongside my family, friends, mentors, my team and especially Pál Hermann‘s family!
