A New Hope

Love this layered shadow box poster of @starwars “A New Hope.” This was a “Secret Santa” gift that @mi2old4this received from @brosand one year. It was that, an @xbox gift card, and some weed… we been homies a long time so he knows me pretty good.

🚙 Road Trip!

@thehuskycaptain LOVES road trips. Any time @mi2old4this packs the car, for ANY REASON, he assumes we’re going on a grand adventure together. We’ve even made a ton of progress with off-leash training in the fenceless front yard because the car is always there to bribe him into good behaviour. Strangely the promise of going places is enough to make him stay put.

Made a new short film last weekend!

THE SANDBOX is my FOURTH 48hr film competition.

What is a 48 hr, you say?

An @rngfest 48 hr is when the rest of the world is about to chill out all weekend, and a group of 120 filmmaking teams in BC decide to write, shoot, & edit a short film in 48 hrs. Because we're "special".

Because I was directing AND producing this go around, I left a lot of very important things to the last minute...Like booking crew. And gear. And filling out that union actor insurance paperwork @joelmccarthy & @sashamduncan told us every few days we needed to get ahead on...

THANK FUCK DOP @ninelight answered the call with a resounding YES! Bringing the most wonderful group of camera & grip/LX humans to us.

THANK FUCK I had @sarabynoe's # in an email from 7 yrs ago when I read my adolescent journal out loud at her #teenangstnight & THANK FUCK she answered the phone & said YES about 5 min before the competition started because I DIDN'T DO THE UNION ACTOR FORMS A WEEK IN ADVANCE LIKE JOEL AND SASHA TOLD ME TO. Sara joined @thecaitlinmc on screen (our THIRD 48 together) & there could not have been a more talented & funny duo to bring @ivyalbuqurque's absurd comedy to life.

HUGELY grateful not one of the other teams knew to book @treehousemanor for the comp or @mi2old4this to support every department and shot these gorgeous #BTSstills.

And BY GODDESS thank you to Josh at @wfw_intl for the amazing #arrimini camera package & Corey at @thembsgroupofficial for the grip/lx gear.

NOT TO MENTION thank you to the @DGC for your strike negotiations postponing editor @flusquil's new job so he could do this! Honestly you could have the greatest script, performance, production team, but if the editor doesn't get it, your film is fucked.

The most important thing on a volunteer film set? FOOD. @cavemancatering wins again with providing freaking delicious, & dietary concious food to indie filmmakers at EXTREMELY affordable prices making sure our crews want to keep doing a great job and come back for the next one.

Huge congrats to all the teams. Vancouver has such a phenomenal group of filmmakers & I just love being a part of this community!

The foundation of the day—make up and hair.

Behind the scenes of key hair and make up artist Vickie McIntyre with swing hair and make up artists Mellissa Schubert and Virginie Kisiela at work.

The attention to detail and precision with their creative abilities boosted efficiency. Their work promoted confidence in our team and positivity that is reflected on the screen.

We are thankful for our makeup artists for showing up and getting everyone prepared for their day of hard work!

Some thoughts from @danielleklaudt, our Grace, below.

We love how this photo highlights the thoughtful production design work by the team @rachelkirkpatrickart @vassovich @justawildkid @kristialexandra @sharons.neverland
& the beautifully cohesive and highly considered costume design by @susan_heimsoth_

I had the pleasure of being on the other side of my usual princess party shenanigans as the bday girl's mom Grace in @julianabergstrom 's gorgeous passion project short.

Halloween 2019: lighthouse keeper. A few LEDs and a delicious stout from lighthouse brewing. Reminding me of our project from 2015, Le Voyage. Maybe time for a sequel...
