My hope is that sharing these observations encourages curiosity, thoughtful exploration and care, with attention to each person’s limits and support from experienced practitioners.

SPINAL DISCOMFORT

Hair Suspension Survey Results

In this carousel, we explore spinal discomfort reported by practitioners: how they describe it, where they feel it and when it occurs.

Among the 208 survey responses, 25 people reported discomfort. The charts on type, location and timing focus on this group, bringing together responses in Spanish and English.

There is still so much to understand about hair suspension. Building on the knowledge passed down through practice, we have an opportunity to document our experiences, ask more precise questions and deepen our understanding together.

These findings are not absolute rules. They reflect personal experiences and do not establish hair suspension as the cause of pain or confirm a clinical diagnosis.

My hope is that sharing these observations encourages curiosity, thoughtful exploration and care, with attention to each person’s limits and support from experienced practitioners.

SENSORY PERCEPTION

Hair Suspension Survey Results

In this carousel, we explore experiences related to vision and hearing: the sensations practitioners describe and the contexts in which they noticed them.

Among the 208 survey responses, 20 people answered Yes to the question about visual or hearing discomfort. Their comments, shared in Spanish and English, describe a range of experiences, from blocked or unblocked ears to changes in vision. Not every sensation described was necessarily uncomfortable.

There is still so much to understand about hair suspension. Building on the knowledge passed down through practice, we have an opportunity to document our experiences, ask more precise questions and deepen our understanding together.

These findings are not absolute rules. They reflect personal experiences and do not establish hair suspension as the cause of sensory changes or confirm a clinical diagnosis.

My hope is that sharing these observations encourages curiosity, thoughtful exploration and care, with attention to each person’s limits and support from experienced practitioners.

Hair Suspension Survey Results

In this carousel, we look at cord texture, soft or rigid, in relation to reported hair breakage.

We also explore these patterns by hair fiber thickness, knot position and years of practice, examining each factor separately.

This comparison includes 200 of the 208 survey responses, bringing together experiences shared in Spanish and English.

There is still so much to understand about hair suspension. Building on the knowledge passed down through practice, we have an opportunity to document our experiences, ask more precise questions and deepen our understanding together.

These findings are not absolute rules. They reflect personal experiences and do not establish cord rigidity as the cause of hair breakage. Some subgroups are very small, so their percentages need particular care when interpreting them.

My hope is that sharing these observations encourages curiosity, thoughtful exploration and care, with attention to each person’s limits and support from experienced practitioners.

Hair Suspension Survey Results

In this carousel, we explore hairdo preparation with and without water, looking at reported hair breakage, bald spots and the personal experiences shared in the comments.

The accounts offer insight into how preparation feels: gathering and aligning the hair, the sensation of pulling, and changes as the hair dries during practice.

There is still so much to understand about hair suspension. Building on the knowledge passed down through practice, we have an opportunity to document our experiences, ask more precise questions and deepen our understanding together.

These findings are not absolute rules. They reflect personal experiences and do not establish hair preparation as the cause of the outcomes reported.

The groups are very unequal, 7 versus 201 responses, and some selected options differ from the methods described in the comments.

Many respondents have never tried fully dry preparation.

My hope is that sharing these observations encourages curiosity, thoughtful exploration and care, with attention to each person’s limits and support from experienced practitioners.

Hair Suspension Lesson 2 ✨

First supported lift-off from the ground in hair suspension… and i was able to spin. 🫠🫠

I’m so grateful for @trellisarts and how patient she is with me. I love her teaching technique and how she helps me build trust in my body and my hair, little by little, while creating a safe and supportive space to work through the fear.

She makes me feel comfortable enough to explore, trust, and let go a little more each time. 🫶✨
