Founded in 2007 by Mario Paoluzi, I Custodi takes its name from the Italian verb custodire, meaning “to guard” or “to preserve.” For Mario, this means preserving the land, maintaining traditions, and respecting the culture of Etna. Today, the estate farms 18 hectares across the northern and eastern slopes of the volcano, where steep terrain and high-density planting make much of the work impossible to mechanize. The vines are farmed organically, trained primarily in the traditional alberello system, and worked largely by hand.

On the northern slope, old vines in the contrade of Moganazzi and Feudo di Mezzo produce the estate’s most long-lived reds, while the eastern slope is home to Carricante, reaching its highest expression in sites such as Mertoli, Taverna, and Caselle. From young vines to 220-year-old vines, I Custodi’s wines capture the distinct character of Etna’s volcanic landscape.

Introducing @tenutaleorigini1919 to the Skurnik portfolio.

The story of Le Origini begins with the Fiorini family, whose connection to Emilia-Romagna and its winemaking traditions spans more than a century. Since the family's first vineyards were planted outside Modena in 1919, five generations have cultivated Lambrusco, preserving the region's heritage while continuing to evolve with each new generation.

Today, Le Origini harvests fruit from both its historic vineyards near Modena and hillside sites in Bologna, producing distinctive expressions of Lambrusco di Sorbara and Lambrusco Grasparossa that reflect the unique character of each vineyard.

Sustainability remains central to the estate's philosophy. Since 2019, the vineyards have been farmed according to certified organic standards alongside biodynamic practices, with every vineyard harvested by hand.

The story of Castello di Cacchiano begins in the 10th century when the noble Ricasoli family built a manor house on the site of an ancient Roman settlement, in the small village of Cacchiano. For over a thousand years, the castle has stood overlooking the hillsides in the heart of Chianti Classico.

The family history is closely tied to the Chianti Classico appellation itself. In 1924, Luigi Ricasoli-Firidolfi, the grandfather of current owner Giovanni Ricasoli-Firidolfi, became a founding member of what is now the Consorzio del Vino Chianti Classico—a legacy Giovanni continues today.

The estate under the ownership of Giovanni today spans 200 hectares, with 36 hectares of vineyards set among fields, woodlands, and olive groves. The vineyards sit on the Monti in Chianti plateau at elevations between 340 and 490 meters, planted to Sangiovese alongside Colorino, Malvasia Nera, Bianca, Canaiolo, and Merlot.

Located within the U.G.A. of Gaiole in Chianti, the estate of Castello di Cacchiano produces wines that reflect the structure and character of the zone, including the Gran Selezione Millennio, made only in exceptional vintages from the estate’s top Sangiovese vineyards.
