A beautiful day to have our say in NYC, come rain or shine!! Loved the experience of marching alongside millions of fellow Americans across our country as we say no thanks to tyranny. The vibes were electric and the power strong. Because we know that a country united will never be divided… (Meanwhile our sitting president was busy falling asleep at his own $45 million tax payer-funded birthday parade but I suppose mentioning and showing that is just me being petty and maybe I shouldn’t post i…oops, too late!) #nokings ✊🏼 taken in United States of America by @trellisdoor

I was thrilled to have to stand in line for the first day of early voting in NY yesterday. Voted blue in my battle whites…an ode to those who came before us. To progress. And to turning the page on the darkness gripping our nation. I have many reasons why I voted for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, along with our Democratic Senator and House Rep, but if you’re on the fence and allowing perfection to be the enemy of better, I see you and welcome you to DM me to talk through things. The only way our democratic republic will thrive is by standing together in a united front. From now until November 5th, that front is the voting booth. Let’s go #vote💙 and save our fair nation. In case anyone was ever curious about my “Rome atichokes in season” face, you’re welcome. Loved sharing one of my very favorite cities with my family. “Shadia’s Rome,” as my Mom has come to call it. I devoured every moment. Its sights, its food and wine, its walking, and most of all its people, both old and new. Even found time to sneak in a side trip to a city I’ve never visited. My first visit, but not my last. Italia, sei bellissima… 🇮🇹 taken in Italia by @trellisdoor

Next stop on our tour took us to the doorstep of Köfererhof, perched right above the estate of Abbazia di Novacella and with history that stretches well over 800 years. Situated in the northern reaches of the Alto Adige/Valle Isarco appellation, the dramatic and breathtaking landscape produces, by the hands of the thoughtful vigneron and winemaker Gunther Kerschbaumer, wines so full of density and impact and, as the Italians say, “sapidità,” a salty minerality that comes of place. It was my second visit to the estate, but the first time I really understood the pride and singularity and dear nature of the Tyrolian people. Many thanks to our dynamic host, Andreas, who’s a real hoot (!) and for the beautiful meal we enjoyed at @Steinraffler, a restaurant tucked into high reaching Kerner vineyards where we enjoyed a full round up of @koefererhof whites and @waldgries reds. Yum. One of my very favorite meals of the trip thanks to the food, the wine, the place, and of course the company… taken in Köfererhof by @trellisdoor

Tucked into the hip of the Dolomitic Alps sits the idyllic estate of Abbazia di Novacella. This Abbey run by Augustinian monks has been operating in Alto Adige for almost 900 years, beginning in 1142. Grape growing and winemaking is just one part of the good work they do for their community, which makes supporting the beautifully crisp and mineral-driven wines of the abbey great for both the palate and the soul. Special thanks to our host, Werner, for his gracious and learned teachings and for the excellent meal and stay in the lovely restaurant of Hotel Paacher. It was truly a dream realized to visit the historical ARPEPE winery last week. Tucked into the alpine slopes of Valtellina, the vines are kept taut by ancient dry stone Roman terraces. It’s so difficult to farm that the vines are slowly disappearing with each year that passes, making winemaking here not just heroic but a true labor of love. I feel like I’ve told the story of this place countless times, but to actually be there walking through the vertiginous vineyards and taking in the perfume of the place, well, it was simply next level. So grateful to the Pelizzatti Perego family for being a steward of these lands since the mid-1800’s. It ain’t easy, but every sip feels worth it, as I believe they’d agree.
