#trenchsafetytuesday brought to you by @milania_corp this week… we in downtown Dover NH doing a nighttime water disconnection for one of our demo partners so they can get their demolition permit.

I spent half my day going over what I needed. In theory it’s a simple job… open the street - dig down - set the box - turn off the corp - disconnect the line - go home.

And as I gave myself the pre game speech and went through my mental checklist that’s what stuck with me - GO HOME

Everyone working with me tonight has someone expecting them home .. a fiancé, a daughter, a someone
It’s not hard to plan the work, it’s actually quite simple ..
if I do my job, everyone goes home and we play again tomorrow.

A 34 year old man died in Texas last week .. 2 other people were recovered from other collapses recently as well..

I haven’t seen any additional information just that investigations were ongoing

This is the time of year everyone pushes - it’s the busiest part of the season. Whether or not these jobs had shoring is always a question .. one picture I saw they didn’t.

As a business owner I’m currently feeling the crunch to get shit done- schedules starting to overlap, one unknown throws you off by a day or two and that snowballs into other schedules.

Take the time with your crews to work safe .. complacency is the true killer… but use a trenchbox

Someone’s expecting you home 🫡

I’ve got alot of DMs of trench accidents lately… This is a trench box .. use one

The “technology” isn’t new. It’s only gotten better. They make a box or a slide rail system for anything that you need to put in the ground…

they literally have anything that you could possibly need…

Someone is expecting you home

1 dead 2 injured in three separate trench collapses last week.

The numbers are tipping back up. I believe we have met or exceeded the number of fatalities in 2025 already this year… Complacency kills. Poor planning kills.

To quote ole buddy from @norstar.p.e
plan the work, work the plan

Last week I traveled to San Antonio to attended the @nuca_national train the trainer course for competent person and confined space training… met some really great people in the class and learned some new things.

Even though I post every week on trench safety I myself had never been through a competent person course. I just know enough to be dangerous but you’re only as good as what you do not what you know so I’m glad I was able to attend.

With that being said I can now give the Nuca training to people. I’ve been asked before about it but I needed to take the course myself.

If you or your company is looking to have your people trained reach out I’d be happy to set something up.

June 15-19th is trench safety stand down week…
There’s been an uptick in the past couple weeks of trench collapses and rescues - the stets don’t lie.

Know your soils - use a box - throw in a ladder
Don’t be an idiot

Someone’s expecting you home

It’s trench safety month and this is your reminder that it’s no joke… it’s required by law and if you’re blatantly ignoring it and putting your guys at risk you’re a piece of shit …

And if you’re in the field and you don’t think something is right say something someone’s expecting you home.

Two weeks ago I gave the keynote speech at the Utility Contractors Association of Connecticut (@wedigct) annual meeting on trench safety and gave the presentation from my panel at @conexpoconagg in March.

We had an open, honest and obviously unfiltered discussion regarding trench deaths across the country and what we as employers and contracting companies should be doing.

The feedback was great and I enjoyed meeting industry peers and some representatives from @nuca_national ..

Looking forward to going back down for Dirt Tech in October.

The message I left them with is and forever will be the same - trench safety and shoring is a non negotiable- someone’s expecting you home.

I would love the opportunity to continue to speak with other companies and organizations on this - feel free to DM me I’m happy to discuss it 🫡
