This week we head to an uninhabited island, meet up with a few friends, have a couple of bonfires and get the anchorage to ourselves.

After 2 years in the Tropics, we will finally head to new scenery, the deserts of the Red Sea and then the relaxing Mediterranean climate.

For now we take advantage of our last tropical beaches and sea life as we wait for our weather window to Socotra.

It’s been a week of R+R, but we still have many miles to the Med, so it’s time to pull up anchor soon and get moving again.

We had such a fun evening exploring Pulau Desa Pena’ah. We always end up having the best experiences when locals approach us out of curiosity and kindness. There were many babies and children up to about 12 years old, but no teenagers or young adults. When we asked why, they explained that older kids attend boarding school in Java, Indonesia, where the proper facilities are available. Walking around the entire island took only about 20 minutes, so it’s easy to see how close-knit the community is!

We strolled around the Singapore’s Botanic Garden and it was magical. A fun fact that I learned was that tiger orchids grow in bunches that can weigh up to 2 tons :0 The garden is apart of UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The orchid garden was stunning and was super special as orchids is Singapore’s national flower.

🦧 Orangutan Tour in Tanjung Puting National Park 🇮🇩

We visited Camp Leakey, one of the main orangutan rehabilitation centres in Indonesian Borneo.

We travelled by klotok boat along the Sekonyer River from Pangkalan Bun, passing dense mangroves and rainforest before reaching the feeding station. Camp Leakey has been operating since the 1970s, supporting research and rehabilitation for displaced orangutans.

While on our tour we had the pleasure of eating traditional Indonesian food~
Mie Goreng – Indonesian-style fried noodles with vegetables and soy sauce
• Sate Ayam – grilled chicken skewers served with peanut sauce
• Tumis Sayur – stir-fried mixed vegetables (green beans, carrots, baby corn)
• Kue Lumpur Pandan – soft green pandan custard cakes topped with coconut milk
• Kue Mangkok – steamed sponge cupcakes, often served in bright colours
• Toast with local spreads – including kaya (coconut jam) and strawberry jam

It was delicious!

The day was so surreal with seeing orangutans and their babies up close. It was such an unforgettable experience.

If you plan to go, choose an operator that follows ethical wildlife tourism guidelines and supports local communities. We used Orangutan Applause. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and friendly!

Neiafu, our first stop in Tonga is another great experience. Proud, friendly people welcomed us to their islands. The great Tongan maritime culture and a community of ocean sailors create a vibrant scene. Lots of new friends!

After our scary experience before entering Takaroa Atol we have had an awesome few days in what felt like paradise. Also meeting up with boat some buddies to share these amazing experiences with. We are now taking a 2 day sail off to just one more Atol island before taking an earlier than wanted sail to Papeete in Tahiti to get Oracle hauled out and gear box sorted! Meanwhile just hoping our second engine doesn’t over heat again we will need this for entering into the next Atol , Fakarava. #paradise #sharks #stingrays #sailingtuomotos #atolislands #followingthesun #sailingadventures #boatbuddies #sailingfamily #liveaboardlife #sailingtheworld #boatinglife #photography #insta360
