Hutch and the neighbors like to argue. Before you worry, he can’t get to the monkeys, they never come within reach, and no he doesn’t scare them away even though I wish he could get them to quiet down at 5am.

Happy Holidays! Took a break from the beach and the sun and had fun with family and friends in the cold. Baby snuggles, snowflakes and lots of Mormor Christmas treats.

This bestest boi deserves his own post. 4 years ago he was pick up off the street in St Pete, underweight, super nervous, hated new exposures and we weren’t sure he’d ever feel settled. Since July we’ve made him sleep in hotels, fly on a plane, take long cramped car rides, switch to a new food, and live in a place that has so many new smells and lots of rain storms (rainy season is now). He has been so much better than we could have hoped, meeting new dog friends on the beach, playing in the sand, chasing iguanas, and today he even met a howler monkey! Moving abroad with a dog is not always easy but he has made it fun. We love our Pura Vida living Hutchie Dutchie #madrescue @madrescue

No school on Fridays means we can go walk and snuggle the dogs at @halfwayhome_tamarindo but no we are not getting another dog. Our fur baby Hutch doesn’t want to share. #rescuedogs #adoptdogs #puravida

Summer ‘25 🏔️Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee.
10 hours. 2 kids. 6 bathroom stops. Only 1 minor backseat punching match.
First stop was dinner with @conantnyc. Bolognese, tuna tartare, burrata, branzino… every dessert on the menu. The sugar high added a layer to bedtime, but when the chef insists you try them all…

We followed unfamiliar roads thst ascended and narrowed with every turn. As the trees got taller, the world got quieter. We pulled over for surreal mountain views, stumbled across a coffee shop I wanted to move into, and I’m still dreaming about the best scone I’ve ever eaten.

I packed enough food to survive for weeks, whipped up aglio e olio, homemade pizza, smoothies, pancakes, farm eggs, whole lemon-basil vinaigrette. It wasn’t long before that mountain kitchen was filled with the voice of Zach Bryan and the comforting smell of us. Of home, even hundreds of miles away.
We rode a mountain coaster in the pouring rain. Battled class 4 rapids with the dance team. Walked across suspended bridges. Picked wildflowers. Met a bear. Ate ice cream in the hot tub. Hiked to waterfalls, trekking back in the chilly creek.

We cozied up by the fire with lentil soup after thunderstorms, battled over air hockey, made up ridiculous dances. Coffee happened in a rocking chair with nothing but birds for miles. I baked cinnamon rolls, peaches & cream cake, dark chocolate flecked banana bread.

Nora was a star and with her team won medals, trophies, and a spot in the final showcase. We missed our Nellie… but there was freedom in letting go of a schedule.

As we drove, I told the kids: ‘do 1 thing that scares you. Nothing dangerous — just something that stretches beyond your fears. Conquer self-doubt.’ After all, the best things live on the other side of fear.

Turns out, I needed that too.
To stand in the mountains as a strong woman, raising strong humans. To sit beneath the brightest stars I’ve seen in a long time, tea in hand, kids asleep… and feel completely whole.

When I unpacked, my clothes carried the faintest scent of cedar — a gentle reminder that I’m more capable than I give myself credit for. The most special souvenirs? The lessons we learned along the way.
