‘The Bench’ written and directed by Ruby Lee Dove

I’ll be honest I didn’t sleep the night before and it wasn’t on purpose. I was just there with my eyes closed but fully conscious. I chalk it up to the spirit of JAY. His routinely fight for survival and trying to make a dent, a difference in his life somehow. In search of a win.

It cannot go without saying that I think @triberumedia is a well-oiled machine. Everyone was fierce in their craft, very kind, professional, and a joy to work with. These artists and professionals are the kind you go to battle with. I’m honored to be apart of this one.

Thank you for everything.

While on your path in life, you often have to stop and acknowledge where you are on your journey. For most people, that means reflecting on who you are in the moment. For me, I can always tell by the people surrounding me and the spaces we occupy together.

When I’m with @queenrubylee, God is always operating in a big way. Ruby wears so many hats: mom, wife, veteran, businesswoman, actor, and producer. But this weekend, I had the privilege of watching her step into another role and direct her new @triberumedia SAG film, “The Bench.” I was also honored to be cast in the film and directed by her.

My friend is a natural. Watching her bring her vision to life, create space for others, and empower people to be their best selves was truly inspiring. I am so proud of the work she is creating, and I’m incredibly grateful to have been part of this moment.

Ruby, this is just the beginning of a beautiful career, my friend. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes you.

To the 26 people who gave to my campaign, thank you so much from the bottom of your heart! If you shared it, thank you so much! If you even talked to me and told me you supported me and cheered me on, thank you for that also! To my supporters that pledged, your cards won’t be charged. You’re only charged for what you pledge if we reached the campaign goal. But just know, WHEN I accept my first Oscar, I’m telling all of you thank you!!! Your contributions healed a part of me that you don’t even know about!
This is a delay, but not a denial. To be continued…..

One of the best choices I made in 2025 was surrounding myself with people who know more than me in their respective fields. I’m not sure if my DP @bryanricke really grasps that he is a cemented piece of my Tribe and is stuck with me lol ! A few others as well 👀
I look forward to continuing to surround myself with knowledgeable COLLABORATORS in 2026 !

11 days left. This is the part of the journey where community becomes everything. The Bench is more than a short film — it’s a story about healing, brotherhood, and the conversations we wish we had sooner. If this project resonates with you, now is the time to stand with us. Every share, every pledge, every bit of momentum matters. Let’s finish strong, together.

We’re officially 20 days out, and every day this campaign grows into something bigger than a film. The Bench is a movement—an intimate story about Black men, grief, healing, and truth. When you pledge, you’re not just supporting a project… you’re helping bring a story to life that our community will be proud to say they stood behind from the very beginning.
If you’ve been waiting for the right moment, this is it. Let’s build something powerful together.
