Today, we are celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day, a date when we recognise and honour their histories, cultures, and their contributions that continue to shape so much of life today. It encourages greater awareness of the struggles, resilience, and unique traditions of Indigenous Peoples, fostering understanding and unity among diverse cultures.

Our @rainforest_fund has been working with Indigenous communities for more than 35 years, supporting and protecting traditional populations in their efforts to conserve their environments and fulfil their rights. Starting with a promise in Brazil @theofficialsting and I made, to support the demarcation of the Kayapo Indigenous territory, we have since expanded our work to promote projects across Africa, Asia, and other parts of South and Central Americas.

As a significant date in our calendar, today we wanted to share photos of some of the incredible heroes working on the ground, fighting to protect their homelands from invasion and incursions driven by illegal mining practices, timber extraction, palm oil plantations, unsustainable deforestation, and more. We continue to be thankful for the magnificent work they do and for their individual contributions towards protecting their ancestral homelands and cultures 💚🍃💚

A Tribal Powerhouse

The Bearded Tribe of Papua New Guinea is one of the many unique and culturally rich groups that inhabit this diverse island nation. Nestled in the remote and rugged landscapes of the Highlands, the Bearded Tribe is distinguished by its members’ impressive facial hair, which holds significant cultural and spiritual meaning. The tribe’s name is derived from the men’s long, flowing beards, meticulously cared for and often adorned with decorative elements during important ceremonies and rituals.

✨ Best Publisher in the World – Gourmand Awards 2025 ✨

I’m thrilled to share that Papadakis was named Best Publisher in the World during the @gourmand_awards in Riyadh,

Edouard Cointreau spoke the following words:

“Our deep admiration and gratitude go to Papadakis, the art publisher that continually surprises the world giving each book a universe of its own. Spanning subjects from the infinitely small to the immensely vast, your catalogue deepens our understanding of the universe and heightens our sense of wonder. The food-culture community is fortunate to experience the beauty you reveal, the instinct that guides your choices, and the books whose message resonates universally.”

To be recognised on this global stage – among publishers from 96 countries and so many remarkable books, creators, and cultures – was so deeply moving.

This publishing house was founded in 1967 by my father Andreas Papadakis, whose publications defined an era in architectural publishing. He was naturally intuitive, and became a leading creator of books on architecture, and design, championing causes and movements that were way ahead of their time. I continue that spirit today, connecting the worlds of art and science, nature, food, photography and design.

I am grateful to everyone who has walked this path with me: authors, artists, scientists, photographers, designers, chefs, growers, partners, my team, and my family - I accept this award on behalf of all of us.

Huge thanks to Gourmand, for championing global food and culture and the world of book publishing, and for creating a space where books, culture, and food stories from every corner of the world can be celebrated.

Here’s to the beauty of books, and to our next chapter 📚✨💫
