“Whether in Busan or Houston, Carroll’s work pays repeat attention to the many ways in which spatial realities are collapsed in media but never quite are. Active Cultures is delighted to share that we have received a multi-year General Operating Support Grant from the Perenchio Foundation (@perenchiofoundation ) The Perenchio Foundation’s General Operating Support Grants provide unrestricted, multi-year funding to arts organizations across Los Angeles County, designed to strengthen organizational infrastructure, support long-term planning, and build financial resilience. This award represents one of the most significant investments in our mission to date, setting the table for our work to come: honoring the confluence of food and art through year round public programming in LA. We are so pleased to be welcomed to this new cohort of grantees, especially as this foundation continues to set a remarkable standard for trust based, enduring funding of the arts in our city. DURATIONS Festival returns 11.9–15.2026 as a week-long, multi-disciplinary exploration of sound and connection. Now in its fifth iteration, the festival’s programming is its most robust yet, with seven days of music, talks, and audiovisual work taking place between @publicrecordsnyc. @pioneerworks, @roulette_intermedium, and @whitneymuseum. Alongside the first wave of artists — @__decoder, @eikoishibashi, @ghost.dubs, @__k_wata, Klein, @crying2leya, @sevwave, Terre Thaemlitz, @yusu_suyu — we are proud to present In Conversation, a series of discussions exploring the worlds of thought, magic, and technology, led by @acidhorizonpod, @gravesmeredith, and @triple_canopy. It began with an audition and this re-creation photo. Three months of rehearsal, and seven sold out shows later, we are wrapped on ‘Questioning!’ Thank you to everyone who came to see us. My wig was blown clean off at the reception this show received! —— As I read through the casting, right away I was intrigued at the prospect of lip syncing to a real conversation, and my brain started to tingle at the idea of being directed *by* the person I would be portraying. My first thought was Synecdoche, NY (ideally with a less tragic ending, but you can’t be too picky). Working on this project has been a gd dream. To be able to work alongside an artist/investigator like Julia, whose work has its finger on the pulse of this moment, has been such a gift. @j.weist , everyone that saw the play had one thought and it was “what a badass.” Thank you for inviting us to become a piece of your art. And thank you for trusting me to be you. It’s a ‘character’ I hope to keep with me and pull from whenever I need to feel brave. I can’t say enough about my cast mates. @michaelpiercesd and @adronduell , your curiosity and kindness are a delight to work with! It speaks to your immense talent that the audio never changed, but each performance you managed to find something different in it to play with. I was never nervous going on stage knowing you were with me. May we take a bow together again soon. To be able to bring together acting, performance art, and art into one piece has been so deeply satisfying.
