🌟 good loser by Alexa Solveig Mardon | World Premiere on November 20 & 21, 2026 🌟

Join New Works for the full-length world premiere of good loser, in partnership with Mardon + Mitsuhashi and the Roundhouse Community Centre. Choreographed and performed by Alexa Solveig Mardon, good loser features an exhilarating, highly-physical duet between a dancer and live drummer, where the performers work to stay present to the continuous unfolding moment. The performance serves as an open invitation to embrace life's inevitable shifts, sharing an honest, movement-driven reflection on vulnerability and presence.

I’m grateful for such a contemplative and productive time this summer beginning in late spring, in a magical composing fellowship residency with new friends and artist community @civitellaranieri. Here are a few scenes and notes of new work I’ve been composing, research and recording and preparing with extraordinary humans who I’ve been collaborating with.

See you all this fall as we move into production with performances, releases , installations , designs and research. I am very excited to announce a few things very soon !

Kuwentong Karst , concerto for Talking Gong ( flute piano and percussion ) @clairechaseflute @alexleepeh ,voice and full orchestra and chorus , so very excited to complete this summer composing largely in Umbria at @civitellaranieri and into the earlier summer. This is a 35 minute work which also invites traditional singing both Lakota and Filipina with Talkng Gong to join South Dakota Symphomy @sdsymphony with music director Delta David Gier . Commissioned by SDSO and it will have it’s world premiere in February 27,2027 conducted by Delts David Gier along side music premiere of the Lakota Music Project and Firebird Suite 1919. Can’t wait :)

With the National orchestra , Philippine Philharmonic we wlll bring the work in June 2027 for its Asia Premiere alongside also the Asia Premiere of Sky Islands . Also really, can’t wait!

The musical score is Inspired and constructed musically with the research of paleo climate scientist , bio geo chemist @dan.ibarra at Brown University and his team with Brown, Occidental University and the University of the Philippines , Philippine National Parks, and each parks caving teams .

Thank you Daniel Ibarra for coming to me with the offer to collaborate on such an important and beautiful research project!

Kuwentong Karst , Stone Story, is inspired by the water research of Philippine Tropical Cave Systems , its cave drips , the musical pitches of speleothems - stalactites and stalagmites, and the flora and fauna exiditing above and below the earth.

My summer of touring has officially come to a close! ☀️🤘How spoiled I was by so much incredible music, amazing people, and beautiful places.

So much love to @elloriemcknight_music and @undertherocksband for trusting me with their music. Another awe-inspiring week at CMW @1313music_hfx , and much fun playing with #BorderGrassAlliance.

I am mortified by the amount of flying I have done over these past few months, but so very inspired by the intense experiences of community.

Thanks to all for the best hangs ❤️ So very excited for the next chapter...
