Recently I completed the Re-Seasoning Coalition’s 6-month Equity & Empowerment in Foodservice program, an experience that challenged me to listen more deeply, reflect on leadership, and better understand how I can create more inclusive, respectful, and supportive kitchen cultures.

As a white woman in foodservice education and leadership, I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue learning and growing alongside industry peers who care deeply about people, belonging, and the future of hospitality.

This work matters. Strong kitchens are built on more than skill alone, they’re built on trust, safety, respect, and opportunity for everyone.

***Enrollment for the next cohort opens July 2026, with classes beginning August 1. If you work in hospitality or foodservice leadership, I highly encourage looking into this program.

Nobody was ready for a Ugandan inspired sauce on pizza… especially not Global News ❤️🍅

We made it to national TV and honestly? We’re still pinching ourselves 🇨🇦🙌🏾

Siika Foods was built on love, Uganda African tradition and a dream to bring authentic flavours to every kitchen. Seeing our Ugandan tomato-based sauce on Global News Morning is proof that dreams are valid 🌍❤️

But this moment doesn’t belong to us alone. It belongs to every single person who believed in Siika before it was on TV. So we have to give our flowers 🌸

🙏🏾 Chef Raquel Fox @islandgurlfoods islandgurlfoods, your passion for championing businesses like ours means the world. You are a true gem 💛

🙏🏾 @globalnews and the incredible @thatguyrossh thatguyrossh , Thank you for welcoming us into your morning and shining a light on black on Canadian businesses.

🙏🏾 Re-Seasoning Coalition @trscoalition your work is changing lives and opening doors we didn’t even know existed. We are so grateful 🚪✨

🙏🏾 Foodpreneur Lab @foodpreneurlab you took our dream and helped us build it into something real. Thank you for believing in us from day one 💪🏾

🙏🏾 And to YOU — our community, our customers, our cheerleaders — every purchase, every share, every kind word brought us here. This is YOUR win too 🫶🏾

From our kitchen to your, the sauce that’s winning hearts on and off TV is waiting for you ❤️ Link in bio

Hire Her, Too: Black Women in Foodservice Networking Mixer… except it wasn’t JUST a networking mixer.

Every detail about this space was intentional. From the resumé review station, professional portrait headshots 📸 and the delicious food, to the notecards and name badges allowing guests to connect and ask thoughtful questions. 🖊️

This space was designed for Black women in foodservice to connect authentically and find community that can lead to opportunities.

This is the FBE experience. Where every experience is curated with purpose.✨

Reflections on another successful run of the Restaurants Canada Show from Foodpreneur Lab Community Manager, Marie Fitrion:

‘There’s something powerful about building space on purpose.

This year at the Restaurants Canada Show, the Black Experience Pavilion wasn’t just a section on the floor; it was a shift in energy. You could feel it the moment you stepped in. Conversations were deeper. Introductions carried intention. People weren’t just showing up… they were seeing each other.

Here is what stood out most for me:

Community doesn’t happen because we gather.
It happens because we choose to hold space for one another.

We watched founders lead with story, not just product.
We saw collaboration replace quiet competition.
We felt what it means when representation isn’t an afterthought, but the foundation.

And maybe most importantly...
We were reminded that access, care, and consistency are what turn moments into movement.

The Black Experience Pavilion is proof that when you build with authenticity and purpose, people don’t just attend… they belong.’

We’d like to keep the conversations, the connections, and the responsibility forward. If you were part of or visited the pavilion, share your experience in the comments below! ⬇️
