A glimpse into one of the many incredible days at this year’s True Grit Spinal Cord Program’s residential summer program ⛳

Our True Grit campers had the opportunity to get out on the course, build confidence, try something new, and most importantly, have fun thanks to the @njgolffoundation, @PGA, @newjerseypga, and @rutgersgolfcourse.

From adaptive techniques and equipment to a whole lot of determination, these young golfers showed us what true grit really looks like.

True Grit bridges the gaps beyond traditional rehabilitation through adaptive day events, a residential summer program on the Rutgers campus, and year-round connection with peer mentors and experienced spinal cord injury therapists. Participants gain real-world skills that promote greater independence at home, in school, and in the community while exploring adaptive sports, recreation, education, and employment opportunities.

A spinal cord injury doesn’t have to define you.
That’s the message @ericlegrand52 delivered to campers last week at @truegrit_sci – the nation's first-of-its-kind residential summer camp for teens and young adults with spinal cord injuries. The no-cost camp is hosted right here at Rutgers and @childrensspecnj .
From mastering dorm life to learning to drive, these campers are proving what "true grit" really looks like.

An incredible week at True Grit Spinal Cord Injury Program Residential Rehabilitation Program!

Throughout the week, participants immersed themselves into real-world college living, participated in interactive SCI educational sessions, heard from special guests, and explored various adaptive recreation—including yoga, swimming, dancing, painting, and golf—but the heart of True Grit goes far beyond the activities.

Every experience was designed to build self-advocacy, problem-solving, resilience, leadership, and the confidence to pursue school, work, relationships, travel, recreation, and the future they envision for themselves.

Today, we were honored to welcome 15 young men and women to @rutgersgolfcourse for the @rwjbarnabas_health @childrensspecnj as part of the @truegrit Summer Camp for teenagers with spinal cord injuries.

Campers had the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of golf while spending time with PGA professionals. A special thank you to Lisa Jensen, Kevin Beirne, Mike Sargenti, and Brian Crowell for volunteering their time, sharing their expertise, and helping make the experience memorable.
