Back for another installment of COMMUNITY HEROS HIGHLIGHTED! This week we focused on @dorianarchie1 , a young man from the great state of Texas by way of Houston . Dorian has been a long time support of the AyeChoEmi community and even lended some of his carpentry skills to assist in building it to what it is today . A member of the Kappa Fraternity and a leader and warrior with the fight against Sicklecell in the black community Dorian has facilitated numerous blood drives to create awareness to the disease and advocacy for finding a cure. Dorian also is an avid chess player that will rarely if ever turn down a good chess match. Along with his fluffy puppy Captain We salute you and all that you bring to the village.

The Black LA Vote Party brought community, civic education, music, food, young people, organizers and leaders together in the heart of Leimert Park.

We believe civic engagement should happen in community - in the places where we already gather, connect and build together.
A special thank you to Assemblymember Isaac Bryan, California State Assembly District 55, one of our event partners, for coming out and joining us.
Black-led. Community-rooted.
Intergenerational.

And we’re just getting started.

NORMALIZE GOING OUT OF YOUR WAY TO SUPPORT BLACK-OWNED BUSINESSES! 🗣️

Not just in August or February. Not just when it’s convenient. Every chance you get. 🖤

That’s why we created The Blackout Game Night. We believe the easiest way to build the habit of supporting Black-owned businesses is to make it something people genuinely look forward to. So we bring people together for free game nights centered around more than 100 games from Black creators.

This #SummerofSole series has been living proof. Our deepest gratitude to @akilisfree and @solefolks for opening their doors and curating a space that feels like an extension of our mission. Much love to our resident DJ @luq.look, the food and drink vendors that kept us fed, and the good people of Leimert Park for filling the space with joy.

Together, we introduced hundreds of people to dozens of dope games from Black creators (like @kbomgame, @tradingraces and @youcantdancegame).

So here’s our challenge for Black Business Month: don’t let your support stop with us. Visit a Black-owned business you’ve never been to. Buy something. Tell your friends. Bring your community back. Post about it. Because that’s how habits become culture, and culture is how businesses survive.

We all we got. 🖤

2026 Adventures: Chapter 2 ✅✨

Wow 🤯

It’s been Grammy Weekend, Super Bowl Weekend, All-Star Weekend, Black in Bloom Weekend, doing a cameo in @itowandabraxton ‘s new MOVIE, tons of recording sessions and shows, Sunday services, moving into a new Hollywood home, building a new studio, preparing new music and booking up this year’s calendar… 🤯

We’re only passed the second month of this year and it’s already been non-stop INSANITY as I literally watch the dreams of my childhood self come to life every day alongside the people that I love.

Grateful, honored, humbled, excited. 🙏🏾❤️ Let’s see what Chapter 3 has in store 🔥🔥

October 20, 2021.
A quiet moment of Black history being made.

At the tail end of COVID, Charlie Scharf, CEO of Wells Fargo, came to Leimert Park—not for optics, but to see real work happening on the ground. Small room. Small circle. Honest conversation.

A community banker who had consistently stood up for Black businesses—Mario from the Crenshaw store—was almost left out due to “capacity.” Space was made. Because the people closest to the work belong in the room.

What happened next mattered.

Charlie recognized that the impact wasn’t accidental—it was structural. That when Black professionals are trusted to serve their own communities, institutions benefit. He stated plainly that organizations like his needed to elevate people already doing the work and that real resources—not symbolic support—were accessible.

Soon after that meeting, Mario went from a neighborhood banking role to Vice President of Philanthropy for the region.

At the same time, a nonprofit born inside prison walls was moving from being renters to owners of property—a rare shift in Black commercial history. Not everyone believed in ownership. Many walked away. But the idea held.

This wasn’t luck.
This was alignment.
This was representation meeting power.
This was proof that when Black leadership is recognized, systems can bend.

This year, this story gets told—not to glorify individuals, but to document how Black progress actually happens.

Quietly. Strategically. Together.
