Master the Art: How to Rap 101 ✍️🎹
If you want to be a rapper, you can't just talk fast—you need to understand the mechanics behind the music. From the technicality of your Bars to the soul of your Execution, each commandment is a pillar of the craft.
Here’s the breakdown of what every emcee needs to know:
1. Bars Over Everything: Your lyrics are your foundation. Punchlines and slick wordplay keep the listener engaged. 🧠
2. Wordplay: It’s not just about rhyming; it’s about how you weave those syllables into the rhythm. 🧶
3. The Flow: You have to be "sick enough." Ride the beat, but don't be afraid to switch it up to keep the energy dynamic. 🌊
4. Stay True: Don't just rap about it—be about it. Authenticity is the heartbeat of rap. 💯
5. Delivery: Stay on beat and ensure every word is heard perfectly. Clear diction makes a world of difference. 🗣️
6. Confidence: If you don’t believe in your work, nobody else will. Own your skills. 🦁
7. Execution & Personality: Don't slur your words. Add range and heart to your performance to make it real. ❤️
8. Concept: Stay on topic. A great song has a cohesive message or story. 📚
9. Melody: Don't shy away from your vocal range. Expanding your artistry adds layers to your sound. 🎶
10. Respect the Culture: Do your research. Know the history of where this music came from before you try to change its future. ✊
Which of these do you need to work on the most? Drop a comment below! 👇

happy birthday @majikmc - i have over 2300 photos of you in my phone - we’ve already lived lifetimes.

from the great mic to our mic, #bascohouse to @palmsupacademy, watching my kids grow to @heartstormfilm, all the shows and gatherings in between. this is a mere scratch - nothing can come close to the whole of it all aside from living it.
and that we do majik.
that we do.

i believe we are in our 10th year doing this work together (we need not mention the times before that lead you to my attention) - so grateful for you. this community, and me personally, are blessed in this timeline to have you.
