Not today, sugar.
Sugar has 60+ aliases. We name them all.
Luteolin + tart cherry. Two ingredients, no filler.
No BS, just better.

We’re talking about FRUCTOSE. 🥤
But before you think this is another “sugar is bad” conversation… it’s not.

I wanted to keep this conversation balanced because metabolic health is about so much more than one food or one nutrient. Lifestyle matters. Movement matters. Muscle matters. Mitochondrial health matters.
BUT… today we’re zooming in on fructose.
Because what does fructose have to do with uric acid, gout, kidney stones and cellular energy? Well you’re about to learn!

@chris_liv3 Chris Mearns has some fascinating things to say about this and I think this conversation is going to make you look at fructose a little differently. 👀

🍭 Fructose has a FAST TRACK to fat… and your liver may be the first casualty.
We often hear that “sugar makes you fat,” but the type of sugar and what happens to it metabolically matters.

In this conversation, Chris Mearns @chris_liv3 explains why fructose is metabolized differently from glucose, why so much dietary fructose is handled by the liver, and how that can connect the dots between high-fructose processed foods, fatty liver, metabolic dysfunction and obesity.

But here’s the part that really caught my attention…
👉🏼 It may not be the immediate effect of fructose that’s the biggest problem…it’s what happens downstream.😬

And once you understand the pathway, the connection starts to make a whole lot more sense.

🎙️ The full conversation with Chris Mearns on fructose is now available on ALL podcast platforms now! Search “Find Your Model Health”.

We think about fructose as a calorie. That might be the least interesting thing about it.

@chris_liv3 from @tryliv3 on this week’s @lifestylemedicine Podcast with @drivanrusilko

Beyond being a fuel source, fructose may act as a conservation signal. Telling cells to store instead of spend. An ancient survival pathway, running in an environment it never expected.

His question: what happens when that signal never switches off?

✨ It’s a proposed model, not settled science
✨ But a signaling problem and a calorie problem don’t read the same on a panel
✨ Fasting insulin climbs while glucose still looks normal
✨ Triglycerides drift, liver markers move
✨ By the time HbA1c flags, the pathway has had a long head start

Do you routinely run fasting insulin, or only when glucose looks off? Tell us below ⬇️

⚡ What if one nutrition lesson could change how you feel every day?

Chris Mearns, creator of Sugar Shield, shared what he wishes he had understood sooner:
**The impact of sugar on metabolic health.**
Looking back, he wishes he had appreciated how nutrition can influence energy, focus, and overall well-being.
His experience reinforced a simple truth:
✔️ What you eat affects how you feel.
✔️ Better metabolic health can support better energy.
✔️ Small, consistent changes can lead to long-term improvements.
The goal isn't perfection—it's giving your body the support it needs to perform at its best.
Your future self will thank you for the healthy choices you make today.

An Adaptive Response

What if insulin resistance isn't just the problem...
What if it's also your body's attempt to protect itself?
Chris Mearns explains an interesting theory: when your cells can't safely handle any more fuel, insulin resistance may act like a metabolic STOP sign.
Essentially, the cell is saying:
“I can't take any more fuel.”
And according to Chris's fructose model, the problem may begin even further upstream with fructose metabolism affecting mitochondrial energy production.
If that's true, it could change how we think about insulin resistance, cravings, and metabolic health.

So many of you have asked me about GLP-1s and why the weight comes back after stopping.

Chris Mearns and I got into exactly why: these medications restrict calories, but they don't turn off the cellular signal that's telling your body to overfeed in the first place.

It’s not about giving up cake 🍰 It’s about taking back control.

When you make your food at home, you know exactly what’s in it. No hidden emulsifiers, preservatives, stabilizers, or mystery additives. No guessing how much sugar or what quality ingredients went in.

Store-bought is designed to sit on a shelf and to make a profit.

Homemade? That’s your power, your awareness, your connection to what fuels your body.

Grow it. Bake it. Read the labels. Learn where your food comes from or what that weird, long ingredient is. Every step is a choice, and every choice is reclaiming your health.

🎧 Full conversation in the episode: why being hands-on with your food changes everything.

Should you eat the whole fruit?

Yes, absolutely. Because your body can handle it. 🍎

But if you're thinking of juicing it, and drying it, you're about to strip away the natural fiber and safeguards that turn a whole food into a cup of metabolic stress.

It's not to say you can't enjoy a lush cold juice on a summer’s day.

But just be aware of how much more fructose your body would be consuming because you've taken away the bodies process to digest the whole fruit.

Your taste buds love the sweetness sure, but your cells notice the difference.

🎧 Dive into the full episode to learn how fructose really affects your energy and metabolism.

Doing Dry January was the longest I've gone without drinking alcohol in a looooong time 😳

I definitely felt a lot better cutting out alcohol, but the SUGAR CRAVINGS WERE REAL YALL 😩

I didn't know that was a "side effect" lol but thankfully I found @tryliv3 Sugarshield and TBH I definitely noticed a difference when I started taking it! 🙏

Check them out for yourself - the science behind it is really cool! 🙌

Ever eaten dinner… had dessert… and then found yourself in the pantry at 9pm like you haven’t eaten in days?

It’s not just “lack of willpower.”

If your cells aren’t producing enough energy, your brain reads that as an emergency.

Not stomach hunger…cellular hunger.

You can have plenty of fuel coming in…
But if your cells can’t access it, the signal never switches off.

That’s how we end up overfed and yet, constantly craving foods we don’t need.

This episode breaks down the paradox of why so many people feel hungry all the time in a world of abundance.

🎧 Go listen to the full conversation and rethink what your cravings are really telling you.

Helping people heal is one of the most meaningful things we can do.

But the uncomfortable truth is that, illness has become normalised.

Every catch-up somehow circles back to someone’s mum with dementia. A partner with heart disease. A friend battling something chronic. It’s woven into daily conversation like it’s just… life.

But should it be?

If the animals outside aren’t riddled with chronic disease, why are we, as the most “advanced” species, struggling so deeply?

Maybe it’s not meant to be this complicated.
Maybe health was supposed to be the default.

We unpack this powerful perspective in the episode.

🎧 Listen and join the conversation.
