Celebrating America’s 250th birthday by visiting the home of its former management. 🇺🇸👑

We stopped at @tryonpalace in New Bern, North Carolina, where the original palace was completed in 1770 as the royal governor’s residence and the colony’s first permanent capitol.

Six years later, America announced it would be going in a different direction. Quite the notice to vacate. 😂

The palace went on to house North Carolina’s early state governors. The building you visit today was reconstructed from the original plans after a 1798 fire destroyed the original.

Beautiful grounds, a little royal drama, and a reminder that our country’s story lives well beyond the pages of a textbook.

Happy 250th, America.
You’ve never been boring. ❤️🤍💙

🏛️ Bringing History to Life at Tryon Palace! 🇺🇸

On Oct 7th, our fourth graders traveled to Tryon Palace in New Bern for an exciting hands-on learning experience that connected perfectly with our American History studies!

Built in 1770, Tryon Palace served as North Carolina’s first permanent capitol and was home to Royal Governor William Tryon. Today, it offers a glimpse into colonial life and an important chapter in our state’s history.

A huge shoutout to our amazing tour guide, Shane, for bringing history to life! Seeing historic rooms, architecture, and artifacts up close gave our students the opportunity to step beyond the pages of a textbook and experience history in a meaningful way. History becomes so much more memorable when students can see where it happened and imagine what life was like during that time!

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful teachers and chaperones who made this field trip possible. Your time and dedication help create meaningful learning experiences and lasting memories for our students! ❤️

[July 13-15, 2026] New Bern is so much more than North Carolina’s colonial capital and the birthplace of Pepsi. It is a destination for every history buff and nature lover! Walk the town’s many neighborhoods featured on the National Register of Historic Places; chill with an ice cold Pepsi Cola at the soda fountain; relax on the waterfront; visit the Tryon Palace, and dine at The Chelsea!
.
Be sure to make the trek to the Beaufort vicinity to explore Fort Macon, and hop on a ferry to Shackleford Banks for the wild horses!! South of the Border is a nice little pit stop to check out along the way as well!!

Let’s plan a Saturday in New Bern! ☀️

Coffee first (obviously 😂), then hit the Farmers Market, get outside at Martin Marietta Park, grab some lunch, take in a little local history at Tryon Palace, and finish the day with dinner downtown.

If you’ve got a day to spend in New Bern, you definitely won’t have a hard time filling it.

Start the morning with coffee downtown, then hop on the trolley and take in a little New Bern history. Grab lunch by the water, wander around Tryon Palace, and spend some time along the river. Then wrap up the day with dinner and drinks.

Not a bad way to spend a day, if you ask me.
And this is really just scratching the surface of what New Bern has to offer.

Visiting New Bern or thinking about making a move here? Save this for your next trip — and stick around, I’ve got plenty more local favorites to show you.

A little history served alongside great food. 🍽️

We're still swooning over @tryonpalace event honoring George Washington’s birthday - our catering team created a period-inspired menu featuring salmagundi—a composed salad popular in the 17th and 18th centuries, traditionally arranged with a variety of meats, eggs, vegetables, greens and other accompaniments.

From historically inspired menus to modern celebrations, we love creating a catering experience that fits the occasion. It was a privilege to be part of such a memorable event at Tryon Palace!

KEEP LEARNING! I attended my first historical apothecary workshop @tryonpalace in @newbernnorthcarolina
. It was fascinating to learn how so many herbs and plants were part of medicine in the 18th century here in America! 🌿🫙 So cool to learn about Apothecary (domestic medicine prescribed by doctors during the18th century). Ingredients used to mix your prescription from a “pharmacy” in the 1760’s and on.

Be inspired & spread the love ❤️
