happy mid-autumn (moon) festival! having 2001 menghai 7572 shou puerh with a lotus seed and egg yolk mooncake ☕️🥮🍂

a viscous tea with deep redwood resins, molasses, and leaf litter. it’s quite warming but perfectly cuts through and complements the decadent mooncake with its smooth, almost creamy lotus seed paste and fun, funky umami egg yolk. definitely one of my favorite pairings 🥰

本日は重陽の節句。
別名「菊の節句」です。

この日の和菓子といえば「着せ綿」が主流となりますが、本日は敢えて、シンプルな「菊」を御用意させて頂きました。

昨今の私を取り巻く状況により、
多方面の皆々様へご不便、ご迷惑、またご心配をおかけしておりますこと、改めまして心よりお詫び申し上げます。

まだまだ様々な整理が付かない状況ではありますが、
それでも私は、これからも和菓子の世界で歩んでいきたいと切に願っております。

だからこそ今、初心に還る。

そんな思いを込めて、本日は華美な意匠ではなく、シンプルな「菊」とさせて頂きました。

これからも、一つ一つ丁寧に。
和菓子の道に精進して参りたいと存じます。

大変厚かましくも恐縮ではございますが、
今後とも変わらぬご指導、ご支援を賜りますよう、どうぞよろしくお願い申し上げます。

I continue to be blown away, beyond my wildest dreams, by the generosity of the people who have rallied around BEE in Kenya. 🐝❤️

Today I’m especially grateful for Mitsuko, the ceramic artist behind the beautiful porcelain honey pots we use and love so much. For our September 12th BEE in Kenya Benefit Dinner & Art Auction, she has generously donated an extraordinary table tea set for 20—a truly special collection made to gather people around a table. @tsuchikara_pottery

It’s hard to put into words what these gifts mean. Every artist, maker, friend, chef, farmer and supporter who has contributed is helping us turn a dinner into something much bigger: an opportunity to support Kenyan beekeepers and communities through education, ecological stewardship and sustainable beekeeping.

This auction has become a beautiful reflection of what happens when people believe in something and decide to give what they can.

And I am so, so grateful.

Still riding high on good vibes from Saturday’s opening reception for INTERSECTION: my solo photography exhibition, currently showing at @carter_andco on Main Street in St. Helena.

Grateful is an understatement…I was a bit weary to put myself out there in such a big way, but this community really showed up! Full force collaborative energy went into making this show happen (IT’S HANGING UNTIL JULY 6, you can still go see!). First and foremost, gotta thank the love of my life Evan even though he’s IG-free, as well as my co-curator and pal @tobellahanson — without both of their encouragement and support, I likely wouldn’t have taken this leap. Thank you to @novaterrakitchenandcreamery @jcarriebrown21 @tomgirlfarms @chloecoolnaughton @susurrusteas @hanabilager @belongwineco @theriverclubnapa @paperplaneswine for providing the tastiest treats and cool sips for all to enjoy. The hugest TY to @kristina_time for her mad painting skills on the title wall. Big props to my amazing print partner @theimageflow, @underdogfilmlab for their care in developing my film work, and to @chelsealradcliffe and the Carter & Co team for believing in me. I cannot thank my dear friend @naturallyella enough for documenting every hug, dog, and magical moment — all of these images are thanks to her brilliance. Finally thank you to all of you who came out to support me and continue to show up for me in all the ways throughout this wild life. Seeing so many kind faces from every pocket of my life was a truly transformative intersection that I will cherish forever. Feeling like the luckiest gal in the all the land ☺️

Phew! Okay one last note: we’re planning a little closing party shindig that will double as a book signing (the book I spent 1.5 years shooting, @chefcharliepalmer’s WINELAND, featuring 20 inspiring makers and artisans across Sonoma County, will be released on June 16). Details soon!

Trying our hand at a more intense appreciation of coffee in it's purest form

This time poured over charcoal roasted coffee from the Japanese Coffee Co.

So far so good...we're still working to understand the balance of water to grounds, and how the flavor is changed by brew time and coarseness.

We'd love to hear feedback and advice from more experienced coffee connoisseurs.

I don’t believe our brains were meant to endlessly multitask — with interruptions abound — as we attempt to process the breaking news alerts hitting us in real time. The expectation that we can and will just keep treading water in a rip current might explain the brain fog and anxiety so many of us (🙋🏻‍♀️) are familiar with lately.

For me personally, it’s essential to embrace and fully appreciate daily moments of joy, because ultimately joy must coexist with rage in order for us to have the strength to persevere. Putting together this late fall/early winter iPhone photo dump was a treat. It includes much-needed adventures with my sister, time in nature, a mini Big Sur getaway with my dude, gigs in Paso and San Francisco, and a few memorable food things. Hang in there kiddos 🤍
