When you sit across from a real hero… you can feel it.

I had the honor of interviewing Officer Myesha Banks, the Atlanta Airport police officer whose courage stopped what could have been a mass-casualty tragedy at the busiest airport in the world.

Back in October 2025, Atlanta faced a moment that could have changed history. A man went online threatening to “shoot up the airport,” then showed up at Hartsfield-Jackson just minutes later. Federal agents later found an AR-15 rifle and nearly 30 rounds of ammunition waiting in his truck outside.

In the middle of all that chaos — thousands of travelers, noise, movement — Officer Banks did what only the brave do:

She stayed calm.
She stayed focused.
And she moved with purpose.

She scanned the crowd until she spotted him.
A suspect blending into the terminal… but matching the exact description of the man who threatened to kill innocent people.

She said she went into “tunnel vision.”
Her training, instincts, and calling aligned in one moment.

She approached him, placed her hand on his back, and took control — not knowing if he had a weapon, not knowing if he would turn violent, not knowing what danger was seconds away…

But she still stepped forward.

Because courage is choosing to protect others even when fear has every reason to win.

Her actions — her instinct — prevented what could have been one of the worst mass events in airport history. Atlanta is safer because she acted fast, wisely, and fearlessly.

Today, I’m giving her her flowers — publicly, loudly, and unapologetically.
Heroes deserve to be celebrated while they can still hear the applause.

We filmed this exclusive conversation inside the @inthecitymagazine studio, and this story right here… it’s bigger than news. It’s a reminder that bravery still lives among us.

Officer Banks — we thank you, we honor you, and Atlanta stands with you. 🙏🏾✨
