#OTD 24th October 1537 Henry VIII’s 3rd wife breathed her last aged 28 When Henry held his son in his arms, there was no doubt in his mind that, to him, she was his only True Queen. Jane had fulfilled her duty providing him with a legitimate male heir 12 days earlier. Named Edward for his great-grandfather he would become King Edward VI His birth was complicated lasting 2-3 days & despite being tended by the best physicians in the realm and receiving the highest standard of care (for the time), within days she became ill. By Monday 22nd October she was described to be in “great danger”. Henry was summoned the next day staying by her bedside until the early hours of Wednesday 24th when she slipped away Although the exact cause of death is unknown, it is likely to be puerperal fever, an infection associated with post natal death in new mothers or perhaps a retained placenta Henry deeply mourned her, the only wife to have succeeded in their duty. Her coronation had been delayed, due to an outbreak of plague, yet she received the burial of a Queen and was laid to rest in St Georges Chapel at Windsor Castle Henry still in mourning reluctantly remarried in 1540 (though the 2nd marriage that year was a much more enthusiastic union - that's for another time!). He left wishes that upon his own death he be reunited with Jane & was buried alongside her If you would like to find out more about Jane, watch Catherine portray her in a series of 4 short films free to view on our YouTube Channel: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsgsLKbuPceDl5g1hPxzChApgiBpnVL1L #pasttimeslivinghistory ... where Theatre and history meet ... #TheSixWives #TudorQueens #JaneSeymour #HenryVIII #EdwardVI #LivingHistory #Theatre #TV #Film #Education #SchoolWorkshops #Entertainment #PublicSpeaking #CostumeDrama #History #TheTudors #Elizabethan #SpeakingoftheStuarts #Regency #Georgians #Victorians #Tudorials #LetsTalkTudors #TheTudorExperience #PTLH A collaboration with Catherine pictured below captured at Sudeley Castle, portrait of Jane by Hans Holbein & The Birth of the Virgin by Jan de Beer

#OTD 5 November 1514 Mary Tudor’s Coronation took place at St. Denis, Paris She had wed the French King Louis XII (34yrs her senior) a month earlier and within two months she was a widow. She had shrewdly agreed with her brother, Henry VIII that once free, she would be allowed to marry a man of her choice! Her brother Henry VIII had promised her this, but was unimpressed when she married his best friend Charles Brandon! The couple escaped the Tower, however he imposed an enormous fine on them, not that they ever fully repaid it! Mary gives us an insight into her life over 4 short episodes on our YouTube Channel, PTLH TV: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsgsLKbuPceAsSvQQaozUf9bqiPE0e5uT #pasttimeslivinghistory ... where Theatre and history meet ... #Thegotolivinghistorygroup #TudorQueens #MaryTudor #FrenchQueen #LouisXII #FrenchMonarchy #HenryVIII #CharlesBrandon #LivingHistory #Theatre #TV #Film #Education #SchoolWorkshops #Entertainment #PublicSpeaking #CostumeDrama #History #TheTudors #Elizabethan #SpeakingoftheStuarts #Regency #Georgians #Victorians #Tudorials #LetsTalkTudors #TheTudorExperience #PTLH Image: Sketch of Mary as Queen of France by an unknown artist

#OTD 9th October 1514 Henry VIII’s 18yr old sister Mary Tudor, married the 52yr old French King Louis XII at Abbeville, France. This arranged marriage was designed to cement an alliance between the two countries, but she was a widow within 3 months. She was then considered as a bride for the Duke of Lorraine and even the new King Francois I. However, she was having none of it! When Charles Brandon arrived to escort her home, the pair rekindled their romance and, despite strict instructions to the contrary, they wed in March 1515. Mary Tudor is coming very soon to PTLH TV!! #MaryTudor #HenryVIII #LouisXII #TudorQueens #StrongWomen #Frenchmonarachy #QueenofFrance #CharlesBrandon #LivingHistory #Theatre #Education #SchoolWorkshops #Entertainment #PublicSpeaking #CostumeDrama #History #TheTudors #Elizabethan #SpeakingoftheStuarts #Regency #Georgians #Victorians #Tudorials #LetsTalkTudors #TheTudorExperience #PTLH #Pasttimeslivinghistory #Thegotolivinghistorygroup Image: Louis by Jean Perréal & Mary as Queen of France

#OTD 8th August 1503 the marriage of Margaret Tudor (Henry VIII's elder sister) and James IV of Scotland was formalised and celebrated at Holyrood. The couple had been married by proxy in January of that year (interestingly the great-grandfather of Bothwell (her granddaughter, Mary Queen of Scots' 3rd husband) had stood in for the Scottish King!) They had only one child to reach maturity, despite several pregnancies, but he would go on to become James V of Scotland. Following the death of her husband at the Battle of Flodden, she became regent for their young son .... but Margaret was not to have an easy life as Dowager Queen! #MargaretTudor #TudorQueens #HenryVIII #TheStuarts #MaryQueenofScots #JamesIV #JamesV #LivingHistory #Theatre #Education #SchoolWorkshops #Entertainment #PublicSpeaking #CostumeDrama #History #TheTudors #Elizabethan #SpeakingoftheStuarts #Regency #Georgians #Victorians #Tudorials #LetsTalkTudors #TheTudorExperience #PTLH #Pasttimeslivinghistory #Thegotolivinghistorygroup Portraits of Margaret Tudor by Daniel Mytens & James IV unknown & depiction of Flodden James Grant (Book)
