Time for another #meetthebookstagrammer - it’s a while since I last did one.
👍🏼
Q. Who are you?
A. I’m Andy, I’m 56, I live in the south of England, and I’m married with two amazing grown-up daughters.
💖
Q. Do you work?
A. Yes I do, full time, for the National Trust. A wonderful charity, and my favourite employer out of the 17 or 18 I’ve had during my working life. It also has many scores of secondhand bookshops!
📚
Q. When did you start your Instagram account?
A. Back in December 2016, in a very small way. I was inspired to start my bookstagram account by my friend, the wonderful Baba @tundextra
👌🏽
Q. What do you like best about bookstagram?
A. The book chat, the book recommendations and just seeing pics of what everyone is reading, their home libraries and the bookshops they visit. It lifts my heart.
💓
Q. What’s your approach to bookstagram?
A. I post once a day, every day. I’m never quite sure what I’m going to say until I start typing. Except at weekends, when I usually ask what everyone is reading, and I also do a ten question Sunday Lit Quiz. Out of 2700+ posts less than five didn’t have books in them, and maybe another five were not taken by me.
🤓
Q. How much time do you spend on instagram?
A. Deep breath. Around two hours a day, in which time I draft my posts and reels, post stories, view and respond to the posts on my feed, answer all my DMs, and respond to comments on my posts.
🫣
Q. Is @places_and_books your only account?
A. No, three friends and I have a reposts account @bookstagramgold and I also have a small photography account @andys.other.account and a smaller account @mybookcatalogue which I use to remember which books I own. Oh and I have a book based blog - link in bio - which I use for booklists, and general bookish mulling.
✍️
Q. Other than books?
A. I played a lot of football in my younger days, but now I love hillwalking, tennis, dogwalking (Ted - a small dog with a big personality) and gardening - any excuse to be outside.

Do have a go whether I tagged you or not 😀

This is a disturbing cover by #stephengervais for a novella by #ThomasLigotti
.
.
This short story is something of a rarity. He doesn’t have much early fiction in print. This appeared in Fantasy & Science Fiction Stories (April 1990), not too long after his first book, but before #Grimscribe
.
.
#Ligotti is very underrated for horror fiction, but I definitely recommend him

Thank you to the wonderful @chapter_maggot for tagging me in this fun challenge! 😊💖

Here goes:

📙Why did you start Bookstagram?
Erm, I guess it was because I'm opinionated? 🤣

Before this, I don't really talk about the books I read. I usually just read comments and reviews about them on Goodreads, YouTube comments, blogs etc. But I myself have never really wrote reviews or comments, so I don't get to express how much I love (or hate, if it comes to that) a book that I've just read. I tended to just think my thoughts in my head and read what others say. And it can be quite frustrating (because I'm opinionated 😅) to keep it all inside (I seldom post on Goodreads as I have this weird preconception that Goodreads reviews have to be lengthy and professional).

📙When did you start Bookstagram?
25th October 2020

📙What inspired your username?
Erm... Eevee? Because Eevee accompanies me when I'm reading on bed 😄🧡

📙First review you ever posted?
The Sixth Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko (it was the book I've just finished at that time and it's also part of one of my all-time favourite series)

📙Favourite thing about Bookstagram?
Getting to know all of you amazing people from all over the world! ❤️ And reading all your passionate opinions on all kinds of books you have read 😁

📙Bookstagram made me buy?
That I could think of:
-Circe
-The Song of Archilles,
-A Gentleman in Moscow,
-A Man Called Ove
-The Way of Kings and Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson

Unfortunately I couldn't get past the first few pages of Circe and The Song of Archilles, and they're no longer with me 🙈🙈

📙Next buy?
The Ferryman by Justin Cronin

📙Bookstagram aesthetic?
Random 😅

📙Recent favourites?
The Robot series by Isaac Asimov (the novels, I haven't gotten to the short stories). And special mention to The Lord of the Rings, which I read not too recently but I'd almost always include it when asked about favourites 🙊🙊

Ok, enough self-indulgent ramblings.

✨Random QOTD: What's for dinner?

I've tagged a few of you for fun, it's ok if you've already done this or are not interested 😊💜
