Fundraisers like @fungogolfevents directly impact our players and their development. ⚾️ Because of our community’s support, we’ve invested in @rapsodobaseball to help our hitters and pitchers better understand their performance, track progress, and train with purpose.

In this installment of The Developmental Gap Podcast, co-host Jose Franco welcomes back regular contributor and Brooklyn’s own JP—Head Coach of the John Jay High School Varsity baseball team—for a deep dive into the fundamental architecture of defensive execution.

While modern player development often obsesses over exit velocities and launch angles, JP strips away the noise to examine defensive first principles: positioning, pre-pitch readiness, footwork, and anticipation. Together, the coaches tackle a burning question in today’s game: Are "Old School" coaches becoming a thing of the past, or is timeless fundamentals the exact edge modern players are missing?

Whether you are a player working to sharpen your defensive awareness or a coach building a disciplined program, this conversation delivers practical insights on building defensive consistency that holds up under pressure.

Key Highlights Inside the Segment:

Defensive First Principles: Why mastering pre-pitch prep, footwork, and soft hands will always beat raw tools.

The "Old School" Debate: Balancing timeless coaching standards and accountability with modern athletic development.

Building Season Two on Season One: A recap of JP’s advice from his previous Instagram conversation with Dillon—why players and parents should tap into the entire archive of Season 1 content to build a complete foundation.
