Phenomenal tasting

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I discovered there are major changes ahead in the Languedoc wine region. There's approval for a new appellation Montpeyroux and more AOP accreditations are in the pipeline - Cabrières and Pézenas. Also, just as Terrasses du Larzac celebrates its 10th anniversary, there's exciting news that there will shortly be whites included in the AOP. I joined an international group of journalists for The Buyer for a week-long tour of the Languedoc region to taste the up-and-coming top quality of their wines. My article just out in The Buyer online.

So great to see so many wine and spirits friends, and to raise a special glass to Philip Gregan of @nzwinegrowers who received the Lifetime Achievement award at @thedrinksbusiness Awards, and to @thebuyer11 who celebrated 10 Years!

Portugal’s Amorim family is best known as the largest and most historic producer of cork stoppers. But it is successfully making its own mark in wine with three different wine estates that authentically express the country’s various terroirs.
I met Luísa Amorim for a rare chance to taste wines from all the three estates together in one location and to hear about the Portuguese producer’s unique cork granule project which sees cork spread around rootstock to help preserve humidity and control temperature. The new PNTX 20, La Grande Année, Bollinger B16 and La Côte aux Enfants 2015 were some of the treasures Bollinger unveiled at a prestigious lunch at the Michelin-star Hide restaurant in London. The 2025 harvest was superb says Bollinger MD Charles-Armand de Belenet. It may even become a vintage year?! Peter Hall 1943-2025 – remembered by friends and colleagues

I was delighted to be asked to share my thoughts and memories of the legendary Peter Hall of @breaky_bottom for an article by Peter Dean for @thebuyer11.

"One time, Peter sent me a case of mixed Breaky Bottom releases, new and old. It was a generous selection, but Peter was like that - too generous perhaps. But upon delivery, there was something extra in the case, which Peter himself described as a “joke” wine on the accompanying note. Certainly no joke in reality, it was in fact a bottle of Breaky Bottom’s Würzer ‘Dry White Table Wine' 1989! Peter warned me, “it was stored at nearly 30 degrees C in the recent hot weather should mean it’s totally ‘caputsen’, so be careful!!!” The wine was still remarkably alive, despite a rather sorry cork, and the bottle became one of my great English wine mementos that I still cherish to this day."

I'll post a link to the full article in my stories, with many more memories and photos from myself and others in the industry.
