Shruti Tewari
Shruti is back for year two! After running with Team Nyaka in 2025, this Virginia runner returns for the team’s sense of community and Nyaka’s work in Uganda. So glad to have you with us again, Shruti.

Team Nyaka is back! 27 incredible runners have spent months training and fundraising for the children of Uganda. With three weeks to go, they’ve already broken Team Nyaka’s fundraising records, and they’re ready for a historic weekend celebrating 50 years of the TCS NYC Marathon’s run through all five boroughs.
On race day, students, grandmothers, Nyaka staff, and our community in Uganda will run a marathon and fun run of their own, in solidarity with our runners in New York.
To mark our 25th anniversary, founder and CEO Twesigye Jackson Kaguri is nearly finished with his 250-day walking challenge. He’s fundraising alongside our runners and inviting all of us to take on a challenge of our own.
Meet the team and cheer them on: https://bit.ly/teamnyaka2026

We are proud to announce a new partnership: Nyaka x @tlcglobaldeaffoundation 🤝💚

Together, we are launching the Deaf Inclusion Programme, empowering Deaf children and their families in Kanungu District from 2026–2027.

Why Deaf children?

In Uganda, Deaf children are often left behind, isolated from education, family communication, and community life. Without access to sign language, they are denied the right to be understood. They are among the most marginalized, yet too often invisible.

Through Nyaka's commitment to inclusion and @tlcglobaldeaffoundation expertise in Deaf education, we are building a future where every child belongs. Our proven approach provides Uganda Sign Language training, family support, and community engagement, equipping Deaf children to thrive.

What is the Deaf Inclusion Programme?

Over the next year, we are investing in:
1. Uganda Sign Language proficiency, for children and their families
2. Stronger family communication, breaking down barriers at home
3. Community inclusion, ensuring Deaf children are seen and valued
4. Lasting capacity, building local systems for Deaf education and support

This is not about quick fixes. This is about investing in communication, connection, and systems that endure long after we're gone.

Why Kanungu?

Kanungu District is a community with immense potential and a shared vision for inclusion. By partnering with local leaders, we are co-creating solutions rooted in the community's strengths and aspirations.

Real change happens when communities lead. 🌱

Join us.

Over the next year, we will work alongside 40 Deaf children and their families, supporting them to communicate, connect, and create brighter futures.

Tap the link in our bio to donate and be part of this journey. 💚 Together, through Prevention, Protection, and Preparedness, we are building communities that thrive without us.

Different Contexts, Common Aspirations. "What unites the world's young people is greater than what divides them." — UN Secretary-General. At Nyaka, we witness this truth daily. Young women from communities where 80% of households survive on less than $2.15 a day are becoming doctors, engineers, and teachers Investment changes everything. 25 years. One vision. Countless lives transformed.
As Nyaka celebrates 25 years of impact, @twejaka reminds us that milestones like
this are never the work of one person.
“Remember this, it is God’s work; there’s nobody that can do this on their own. It is only through Him that this is possible.”
For 25 years, Nyaka’s story has been one of faith, purpose, community and a commitment to creating opportunities and changing lives. Here’s to celebrating the journey, honouring everyone who has been part of it, and looking forward to the lives that will continue to be transformed in the years ahead. #NyakaAt25Years #LegacyForMyVillage

This Moment Counts

Oh, what a night! What a celebration!

On 7th August, we gathered to celebrate @nyakaglobal at 25 and to launch @twejaka’s third book, Legacy for My Village.

But 25 years is bigger than one night. It deserves a season of looking back, taking stock, giving thanks and celebrating just how far Nyaka has come.

In the speech I gave as we launched Legacy for My Village, I tried to break down the magnitude of 25 years:

25 years.
300 months.
More than 9,000 days.
More than 219,000 hours.
More than 13 million minutes.
Nearly 789 million seconds.
More than 920 million heartbeats.

And even those numbers barely begin to tell the story.

They don’t count the prayers prayed, the partnerships forged, the generosity shared, or the many miles Jackson, the children and the grandmothers have run and walked in marathons over the years.

And they certainly cannot measure the impact, direct and indirect, of lives changed, families strengthened, opportunities created and generations transformed.

Some things simply cannot be counted.

Congratulations, Nyaka!

Bask in 25. Celebrate it. Savour it. Take the whole year if you must! Twenty-five years of keeping a promise deserves more than one night.

Here’s to the first 25, and to all that the next 25 will make possible.

We were delighted to welcome @crystalanewman Newman to the Nyaka offices as she spent time learning more about our journey and the impact we have made over the past 25 years.

As one of Uganda's most respected broadcasters, television hosts and event moderators, Crystal has spent decades using her voice to connect people, celebrate inspiring stories and champion causes that matter. Her work in media and humanitarian engagement has consistently highlighted the power of storytelling to inspire positive change.

Crystal will be our Master of Ceremonies at Nyaka's 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner on Friday, 7 August, at Mestil Hotel. During our conversations, her genuine curiosity, warmth and passion for our journey shone through. We felt we couldn't have chosen a better friend to help us tell this story and celebrate the remarkable people behind it.

"The more I learn about Nyaka, the more inspired I become. I am especially looking forward to building a deeper understanding of the phenomenal grandmothers whose love, resilience and leadership have sustained Nyaka's impact for 25 years. Their story is one that deserves to be celebrated and shared." - Crystal Newman

This is just the beginning. We look forward to sharing more updates as we count down to an evening of celebration, reflection and hope. #NyakaAt25years #LegacyForMyVillage
