Perrotin presents a solo booth dedicated to the work of Kathia St. Hilaire. Informed by her ancestral roots in Haiti and her upbringing in South Florida’s Afro-Caribbean neighborhoods, St. Hilaire honors these communities and their stories through innovative printmaking and painting techniques.

For Dana Schutz, printmaking is far more than simply translating a painted image into another medium.

Since 2012, the artist has been collaborating with the New York printmaking studio Two Palms, where she develops independent works that straddle the boundaries of painting, drawing, and printmaking.
The creative process remains particularly visible in her monotypes: colors overlap, surfaces leave traces, and the printing process produces moments that cannot be fully controlled. Schutz then further refines many of the prints with gouache, chalk, or pastel. The result is a series of unique pieces in which her visual worlds continually take on new forms.

In DANA SCHUTZ. TROUBLE AND APPEARANCE, the print works demonstrate how effortlessly Schutz moves between different media—and how each one opens up new possibilities for storytelling.

Druckgrafik ist bei Dana Schutz weit mehr als die Übersetzung eines gemalten Bildes in ein anderes Medium. Seit 2012 arbeitet die Künstlerin mit der New Yorker Druckwerkstatt Two Palms zusammen und entwickelt dort eigenständige Arbeiten zwischen Malerei, Zeichnung und Druck.

Besonders in ihren Monotypien bleibt der Entstehungsprozess sichtbar: Farben überlagern sich, Oberflächen hinterlassen Spuren, und der Druck bringt Momente hervor, die sich nicht vollständig kontrollieren lassen. Viele Blätter bearbeitet Schutz anschließend mit Gouache, Kreide oder Pastell weiter. So entstehen Unikate, in denen sich ihre Bildwelten immer wieder neu formieren.

In DANA SCHUTZ. TROUBLE AND APPEARANCE zeigen die druckgrafischen Arbeiten, wie selbstverständlich Schutz zwischen unterschiedlichen Medien wechselt – und wie jedes davon neue Möglichkeiten des Erzählens eröffnet.
