Happy 3rd birthday to our sweet #GracieLou!! Here’s an ode to her Resting Grouch Face. 😂

We adopted Gracie about 9 months after I lost my soul dog. She was only 7-weeks old, and was listed as a “lab mix” at the rescue. We assumed she’d have some of the usual rescue breeds mixed in, so we got her DNA tested. Turns out, she doesn’t have a speck of lab in her (though everyone assumes she’s a lab!).

That’s how we learned about Maremma Sheepdogs (she’s 50%), a Livestock Guardian Dog breed! And she has allllll the personality traits of one. They’re basically just smaller Great Pyrs (peep that demanding Pyr Paw on one of the slides).

Problem though - they bark A LOT when outside. Especially at night. This was not ideal when we lived in a suburban neighborhood. So now we joke that we bought our dog a farm.😂😜

So, thanks Gracie Louise for motivating us to move to the country and for protecting our flocks and herds so fiercely! We definitely know she has keep predators away from our property, and we know God put her in our lives before we ever knew that we needed her!

She’s such a Daddy’s Girl and is obsessed with Ian (also in this slide deck). I’m glad he finally has a soul dog too!😍🥰

Happy birthday, sweet girl!

Team Gracie or Team Bruno-the-Husky-Mix?

Gracie hates cold weather and wears a coat when it’s under freezing. She lives for a nap in the sun on a warm day.

Bruno prefers snow and freezing temps and never wants to be outside in the summer. 😂

⛈️ Summer storm! ☔️

And then the wind blew the door open and let the dogs out (who were not wearing their fence collars).

Now we have two very soaked dogs. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🥴

Meet the critters of Seagram Farm! Of course the most beloved are our @tworvapups, Gracie and Bruno!

When we adopted GracieLou two years ago, we were told she was a “lab mix”. Turns out, there’s no lab in her. 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ She’s 50% Maremma Sheepdog, which is a smaller cousin to a Great Pyrenees, and a Livestock Guardian Dog! This was not ideal when living in the suburbs of Short Pump, as they are literally bred to bark🥴🙃 (sorry former neighbors). So, for her second birthday, we bought her a farm and some goats to guard (kidding, but actually…).😂😂

Bruno is the rambunctious little brother, doing all things little brothers do. He’s the handsomest boy and just generally happy to be wherever the action is or following his big sister around!

We also had two guinea fowl gifted to us by our dear friends shortly after we moved in. Mario & Luigi transitioned to our farm nicely, but unfortunately we didn’t see them for a few days and now only Mario has returned. 😭🙏🏼 Still praying Luigi reappears, but we don’t know.

Our latest additions are George & Lucy, our 9wk old Nigerian Dwarf Goats we got at the Amelia Farm Swap on Saturday on a whim! 🙃😂🐐 We are in love, and having to learn quickly how to be goat parents. They were so skittish when we first got them, and Lucy kept trying to escape, but within about 48 hours they started to warm up! them and they don’t scream when I snuggle them! They’ll be in pajamas on leashes at Tractor Supply in no time! 😂😂😂

We also have wild turkeys (and two babies!!!!), a lizard, a ton of deer, so many birds, groundhogs (one massive one we haven’t gotten a picture of yet), three giant black snakes, and a bunch of other random critters.

If y’all have ever met Meg in person, you know this is her heaven. 😍🥰🙌🏼

We plan to add chickens (eggers and maybe broilers) soon, and sheep and turkeys too! Likely a Maremma as a livestock guardian and maybe a donkey too, just because we’ve always wanted one! And Kunekune pigs!!

Meg is still working on Ian being okay with two highland cows as well. 😝🥹🙏🏼

👋 This is us - Ian & Megan of Seagram Farm! We are about to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary this summer and 14th year together this fall, and just bought our first (and forever?) home on 19+ acres in Central Virginia!

We’ve always dreamed of having a homestead of some kind. We were looking at properties of 2+ acres off and on for years. Praying for years for the right place. Assuming we would find a few acres and make it ours and eventually find something bigger as our forever home.

But God had better plans. 🙌🏼

After some sporadic showings over a month or two, and then 3 showings in two days, this was our 4th stop and the second we turned the corner in the driveway and saw the pasture, we fell in love. We knew we were home.

Ian grew up in the country and building fencing and driving tractors and owning horses and various livestock, and Megan grew up about 25 minutes from Amelia in the heart of the suburbs, and then moved to the city!

We are the living embodiment of Green Acres! 😂 A show Meg grew up on, and Ian had never heard of until Meg started singing the song all the time.

⁉️Please tell me you know Green Acres?!?!⁉️

Anyway…follow along for all the antics and random critters and mishaps and fun and praising the Lord that is happening around here!

🙌🏼😍Our dreams and prayers for so many years are now a reality and far beyond what we ever imagined! I pray we never lose our wonder over the glory of God in this place.

Thank you for joining us on our journey as we (Ian & Megan) learn all things farm life and get to live out our dreams together!

What a beautiful night for some games and a bonfire in our new fire pit at @community_life_church!! Loved seeing some new faces and welcoming back a few of our favorite humans we’ve missed the last few weeks!

Next chance to join us is Sunday, October 17th from 6-8pm!! Hope to see you there!
