Official account for the Office of Texas Comptroller Don Huffines, CFO of the world’s 8th largest economy.

REPORT: Texas Comptroller Don Huffines signed an executive order banning the use of state grant money to buy or contract for Flock cameras, automated license plate readers, and other vehicle-identification systems that convert license plate images into computer-readable data.

“The government has no business tracking where law-abiding Texans drive. Doing it without a warrant is a clear violation of the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution,” Huffines said. “Texans should be able to drive to work, to church, or to the grocery store without a government camera logging it in a database.

“I am humbled and honored to do my part to restore liberty and stop the erosion of freedoms that are constantly being taken from Texans. Government’s job is to protect your liberty, not take it. No spy cameras.”

These requirements will apply to all future grants administered by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. The agency will incorporate the restriction into all relevant grant solicitations and agreements going forward.

Under the executive order, grantees may not obligate or expend grant funds to procure or obtain prohibited surveillance equipment or services, or to enter into, extend, or renew a contract to procure or obtain them.

Prohibited surveillance equipment or services include any system, software, or computer algorithm, whether used independently or in combination with one or more mobile or fixed automated cameras, that converts license plates or other images into computer‑readable data. This includes, but is not limited to, cameras, sensors, software, subscriptions, and data platforms marketed, sold, or operated by any entity, including Flock Group Inc. (d/b/a Flock Safety), Motorola Solutions Inc., Axon Enterprise Inc., and their successors, affiliates, or resellers offering automated license‑plate recognition or vehicle‑identification systems meeting this definition.

There’s more wigs than Cowboy hats in Texas. 250 years after leaving England we are in the same state of life. Taxes, militarization, private business over the people, good ole boy games, government corruption, all the things. Time to throw the tea kids.

August is one of the easiest months to keep more money in your pocket! 💰

Here are 3 simple ways to save this month:

🛍️ 1. Look for deals & coupons
Before you check out, take a minute to search for discounts, promo codes, or cash-back offers.

🛒 2. Shop Tax-Free Weekend
If you’re buying eligible back-to-school clothing, shoes, or supplies, take advantage of the savings while they last.

💡 3. Reduce Home Energy Costs
Raise your thermostat a degree or two, change your air filter, turn off lights, and unplug electronics you’re not using. Small changes can make a noticeable difference on your utility bill.

✨ Remember: Pennies saved today can become dollars upon dollars tomorrow. Every small step adds up!

🌱🌵 Has anyone else been asking local garden centers about the Texas tax-free weekend for plants?

🌿 I stopped by Sunset Gardens (105 Lindbergh Ave) to replace two Star Jasmine plants that did not survive the El Paso weather.

😭☀️ I asked about the Water-Efficient Products Sales Tax Holiday and they had not heard about it yet, even after I showed the Texas Comptroller information.

😂 Plot twist.

💸 Sunset Gardens was running a Memorial Day sale and I actually ended up saving 20%, which beat the tax savings anyway. Win is a win. 🙌 Shop local.

🌿 I also grabbed some herbs and now we enter the annual El Paso summer survival challenge.

🥵 Can I keep plants alive through triple-digit temperatures?

🌞 El Paso gardeners... what survives best for you here? Herbs? Flowers? Shade plants? Drop your heat-proof favorites below 👇
