Dr. David Kerns has led @tamuagrilife's response to pasture mealybug since it was first confirmed in Texas in spring 2025, and Texas producers have a way to fight it because of the work he and his team put in. In August, EPA granted an emergency exemption for Centric 40WG, something Dr. Kern's team pursued after their field trials showed it gave consistent control. Before that, there was nothing labeled that handled a heavy infestation. The pest has now reached 114 Texas counties, and Dr. Kerns is still running trials and meeting with producers across the state. Thank you, Dr. Kerns. If you run cattle or cut hay, time spent scouting your pastures is time well spent. A person stands beside a white truck with a "Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service" logo. Monica Siwiak has joined @txextension as our new apiculture program specialist in Rosenberg! She picked up beekeeping ten years ago looking for a hobby and is now the first and only nationally certified honey judge in Texas. She can also identify 18 honey varieties by smell and taste, which is something I did not know was possible. I hope she's able to show me her tips and tricks sometime soon. Welcome, Monica. A person is holding up a glass of amber liquid, inspecting it closely. In front of them is a table with several glasses and small bottles containing similar liquids. A Chemex coffee maker is visible on the table. Large windows in the background reveal a view of leafy trees outside.
