Learned all of this from @cheng_ruan_md and @txlifemed a few months ago. Now being 7 weeks post-op from my first excision surgery, I was able to take my first breathing class and learn how my body should be functioning.

I’ll have 4 weeks of practicing breath work everyday and then we’ll revisit to start focusing on fascia release work.

I learned more in my 30 min consult call with @cheng_ruan_md at @txlifemed than most doctor appts the past 30 years! This is a 7-part series of everything I learned so more to come ✨

I also need to thank Dr. Addison, @yourvulvabestie, for the referral. She’s always listening, always treating and making sure her patients get help right away so there’s no delay in treatment. She’s a gem and I would’ve never known I had these illnesses without her 🥺🫶🏼

My consult appt was in May and right when we were going to schedule tests, my excision surgery got moved up so I shifted my focus there.

Once I’m cleared from surgery, I’ll be diving back into testing to learn more about how to best support myself with these illnesses! Which I cannot wait for bc my POTS and MCAS flares are cycling hard rn 🫠

I just returned from the AOS COS 2026 Conference and my mind is blown. 🤯

AOS COS brings together orthodontists, oral surgeons, sleep physicians, airway-focused dentists, and other healthcare professionals who are passionate about helping patients breathe, sleep, and function better.

We discussed treatments such as MARPE (Miniscrew-Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion) and orthognathic (double jaw) surgery, but what struck me most was how often the conversation came back to one thing: sleep.

Sleep-disordered breathing, Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS), and obstructive sleep apnea don’t just affect energy levels and cognitive thinking. They can impact growth, development, airway health, facial structure, overall health, and quality of life.

Many of the treatments discussed at the conference are designed to address the structural and functional factors that contribute to airway restriction and poor sleep.

As a myofunctional therapist, it was inspiring to learn from so many brilliant providers who are working together to help patients breathe better, sleep better, and thrive.

And if you hear me mispronounce “orthognathic surgery” in this reel… 😆 it was my second take. It serves as a good reminder that we’re all human, we’re all learning, and perfection isn’t the goal—helping people is. ❤️

People seem particularly interested in where I had my brain map completed - my functional med Dr here in Houston offers it. @cheng_ruan_md Helped provide supporting documentation to Blue Cross Blue Shield that, yes, her brain and heart are suffering the consequences of severe obstructive sleep apnea, likely since birth based on the early dementia markers seen here. It also explained the Arrythmia that I’ve had brushed off (“you’re super fit”) for decades.
