Another design project for @txriversprotection fresh flyers for their event in Dallas next month @thewilddetectives to educate all in protecting the Trinity River @savethecutoff ! Very glad to have created this for @txriversprotection who’ve done so much across the state to protect our rivers, including our own Rio Grande throughout this year. 💙

We protest every Sunday at 10AM - Northpark Blvd & US75 ✊❤️

Texans everywhere have made the most beautiful signs for Big Bend (shoutout the San Antonio Poster Party that helped bring 200+ ppl to the courthouse rally 🎨). Let’s get more positive messages on these overpasses to show how much we love Big Bend and our neighbors out west. We’ll bring extra craft materials, and if you bring your own tools & vision, even better!

This is a great chance to have fun standing up for your neighbors and join the folks working against this struggle statewide. See you soon Dallas!

TOMORROW - Save Big Bend goes statewide. If they won’t protect Texas, we will. See y’all every Sunday Houston, Austin, Dallas, San Antonio - and El Paso. Then we go nationwide. ✊

If they think we’re letting them come to Texas and destroy our home, they have another thing coming.

IMPORTANT RULES - BRING WATER, sunscreen, and a sign! You must hold your sign. Do not tie or hang anything to city property. No large equipment, tables, weapons, drones, noise amplification, long metal flag poles, blocking sidewalks/crosswalks/roadways.

Dallas STAND UP - We rally on the Northpark Blvd overpass at US 75 every Sunday at 10AM. We have allies everywhere, and we can save Big Bend together.

While our friends in West Texas file lawsuits and work every angle, it’s more important than ever that we make our voices heard. This isn’t about left, right, or immigration - it’s about illegal border construction on our parks & land. We all know how important Big Bend is to Texans. Now we need everyone to know that this isn’t over.

So we are bringing our Save Big Bend overpass rallies to every metro in Texas. The idea is that a few dozen people can reach tens of thousands of Texans in a couple of hours, every week. We’ve had groups of 40+ every week in Austin ✊ Post these dates on your story & tell everybody you know - We rally every Sunday through November 1.

Some rules - BRING WATER, sunscreen, and a sign! No large equipment, tables, weapons, drones, noise amplification, blocking sidewalks/crosswalks. Poke a hole through your sign and tie it to your hand with a string or make *sturdy* handles w duct tape so it doesn’t fly away in the wind. Flags are good too. Love y’all ❤️

Bulldozer and SWVC contractors in front of Santa Elena canyon this morning. As of noon today, August 5, they are actively surveying and putting stakes in the ground to show their working limits for the clearing that is to take place. They are working in the Rio Grande floodplain and critical riparian habitat.

TEXAS AQUIFERS
Texas has numerous aquifers capable of producing groundwater for households, municipalities, industry, farms, and ranches. The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) recognizes 9 major aquifers − aquifers that produce large amounts of water over large areas (see major aquifers map) − and 22 minor aquifers − aquifers that produce minor amounts of water over large areas or large amounts of water over small areas (see minor aquifers map).

These aquifers are a critical source of water for Texas, supplying 55 percent of the 14.7 million acre-feet of water used in the state in 2020. About 75 percent of this water is used for irrigation, with irrigators withdrawing most of this water from the Ogallala Aquifer alone (74 percent of all groundwater used for irrigation, or 4.5 million acre-feet per year). About 32 percent of water used to meet municipal demands is from groundwater.

The Geologic Atlas of Texas illustrates the surface extent of geologic formations (and aquifers) across the state. The surface extent, or outcrop, of each aquifer is the area in which the host formations are exposed at the land surface. This area corresponds to the principal recharge zone for the aquifers. Groundwater encountered within this area is normally under unconfined, water-table conditions and is most susceptible to contamination. Some water-bearing formations dip below the surface and are covered by other formations. Aquifers with this characteristic are common, although not exclusive, east and south of Interstate Highway 35. Aquifers covered by less permeable formations, such as clay, are confined under artesian pressure. Delineations of the downdip boundaries of such aquifers as the Edwards (BFZ), Trinity, and Carrizo-Wilcox are based on chemical quality criteria.

Save Big Bend ATX Capitol Rally is this Saturday at 4:00. Big Bend is ours, and it’s up to us to protect it.

We are going to be at the Capitol South Steps, rain or shine. We’ll have speakers and music. Bring water. Bring a sign. Bring your voices.

Big Bend Conservation Alliance will host a series of panel discussions about the devastating impacts the recently proposed border wall would have on the environment, wildlife, ranches, conservation efforts, cultural preservation, dark skies, and day-to-day life for residents along the Rio Grande River and the Big Bend region.

The tour kicks off on April 7 at The Wild Detectives in Dallas at 7:00pm. Panelists for this discussion include Christina Hernandez (Big Bend Conservation Alliance), Austin Alvarado (Cinematographer), and Richard Grayson (Texas River Protection Association). The event is free and open to the public. More events will be announced soon.
