Dallas STAND UP - We rally on the Northpark Blvd overpass at US 75 every Sunday at 10AM. We have allies everywhere, and we can save Big Bend together.

While our friends in West Texas file lawsuits and work every angle, it’s more important than ever that we make our voices heard. This isn’t about left, right, or immigration - it’s about illegal border construction on our parks & land. We all know how important Big Bend is to Texans. Now we need everyone to know that this isn’t over.

So we are bringing our Save Big Bend overpass rallies to every metro in Texas. The idea is that a few dozen people can reach tens of thousands of Texans in a couple of hours, every week. We’ve had groups of 40+ every week in Austin ✊ Post these dates on your story & tell everybody you know - We rally every Sunday through November 1.

Some rules - BRING WATER, sunscreen, and a sign! No large equipment, tables, weapons, drones, noise amplification, blocking sidewalks/crosswalks. Poke a hole through your sign and tie it to your hand with a string or make *sturdy* handles w duct tape so it doesn’t fly away in the wind. Flags are good too. Love y’all ❤️ taken in Dallas, Texas by @txriversprotection

Texas Rivers Protection Association Secretary Alexander Neal urging the Texas Parks & Wildlife Commissioners and executive staff to support the agency and the Office of the Attorney General in being an amicus curiae, or "friend of the court" at the upcoming hearing for an appeal on the Save The Cutoff state case in Tyler.

The case is currently postponed to October 20, 2026, and deals with a group of hunters and fishermen @savethecutoff suing a wealthy landowner in East Texas over illegally blocking access to a section of the Old Trinity River via state land. The eventual outcome of the case could change how the courts interpret stream navigability laws in Texas and beyond.

Back in June of 2026, Amerika Garcia Grewal of @frontera_federation warned the public and elected officials about the dangers posed by the cheaply built and poorly planned federal border buoy project in Eagle Pass, Texas. Grewal has been sharing information on the dangers of these types of projects for years. One month after Frontera Federation's video, widespread and historic catastrophic flooding affected much of central and south Texas, sending the Rio Grande into moderate flood stage per @noaa . The flood sent hundreds of buoys downstream, prompting emergency shutdowns of several international bridges and threatening life downstream. Adding to the increased unnecessary obstacles that strapped first responders are having to deal with, DHS' hundreds of miles of razor wire left in the floodplain of the Rio Grande are also posing threats to people, wildlife, and potentially infrastructure.

No more disastrous spending. No more disastrous actions that harm our international river and violate international, federal, and state laws, and risk our river recreation economy and livelihoods.

They thought it would be easy -

destroying and restricting our most valued river access sites, the Lower Canyons of the Rio Bravo, some our most important cultural sites; and banishing over 20,000 acres of our public lands and even more of our ranches and farms...

it won't be. Not if Texans have anything to do with it.

Big Bend International Park? // ¿El Carmen Big Bend Complex?

Big Bend National Park was established on June 12, 1944 and prior, US President Franklin D. Roosevelt proposed to President of Mexico Manuel Avila Camacho:

"I do not believe this undertaking in the Big Bend will be complete until the entire park area... on both sides of the Rio Grande, forms one great international park."

This idea of the transboundary protected area actually goes back further, to 1933, when the now-National Park was established as Texas Mountains State Park and the Chamber of Commerce in Alpine hired a landscape architect to design an international park. Unfortunately, the idea nearly died alongside Roosevelt, but was revived during the Truman administration until responses from the Mexican government fizzled out in the 50s.

Governmental talks on the idea largely ceased until 1983 when President of Mexico Miguel de la Madrid Hurtado and US President Ronald Reagan signed an agreement to protect, improve, and conserve the riverine border. Many protected areas within the Big Bend became established after, including Big Bend Ranch State Natural Area, Maderas del Carmen protected area, Cañon de Santa Elena Flora & Fauna Protection Area, a conservation project owned by Cemex, and Ocampo Flora & Fauna Protection Area.

In 2010, President of Mexico Felipe Calderon and US President Barack Obama signed a joint-statement pledging both countries' support for cross-border protection. As talks continued, area reps seemed divided on the park idea, with conservatives rejecting the park due to "border security concerns" and democrats seeking to work with the Mexican government to make Roosevelt's dream come true.

In 2021, TRPA considered bringing back the idea of this proposed transboundary protected area by engaging with National Park Service, National Audubon Society, Sierra Club, Rotary International, the states of Coahuila & Chihuahua, and area land trusts.

So what's next? A wall?
Not if we can stop it.
