Speechless! Shadow and Son by @gretchenwritesbooks left me absolutely speechless. Did I cry my eyes out through the ending and honestly so many other portions of this book? Yes. Absolutely. Gretchen definitely knows how to pull at the heartstrings.

The Shattered Crown series has some of the best characters combined with an absolutely stellar plot! And this final book doesn’t disappoint. It brings all of that energy and so much more! While also giving us an ending we can be happy with.

Gretchen’s writing is just amazing. It’s beautifully done and incredibly addicting. Every book of hers that I’ve picked up has absolutely absorbed me immediately and teleported me to somewhere new.

I was fortunate enough to receive the audiobook for Shadow and Son and I can’t say enough good things about @snemethparker, @tyla_collier, and Dan Calley. There are quite a few characters and the narrators gave them each their own distinct voices. Not to mention the amount of emotion they put into each of them. Just truly amazing.

I’m so in love with these characters and this world it feels almost bittersweet for it to have ended. But Gretchen has definitely left herself room to do a spinoff and I hope that happens!

In case it wasn’t obvious, this is one of my favorite series. If you haven’t read it, now is the time!

TL;DR
🦋 what an amazing conclusion to the trilogy
⚔️ man that ending had me crying my eyes out
🦋 the narrators did such a fabulous job, you could really feel the emotion
⚔️ this series is top tier to me, 10/10 definitely recommend

Thank you to @gretchenwritesbooks for the gifted ALC!

QOTD: if you’ve read this series, who is your favorite character? If not, what colors would your wings be if you had them?

I held herbal consults where community shared what they were moving through & I made custom tea blends to support. 🌱

here are some photos from the day with these luminous people. & some daisies in bloom from the garden. 🥹

Happy Hoodoo Heritage Month, beloveds! October at Gladys is stacked with something for everyone!

We’re bringing back karaoke in our Wine Lounge this Thursday, with a free drink for the first 3 singers. Alicia Hines will join our very own Paula T Renfroe for Authors After Hours, and Dr. Rachel Hardeman hosts a salon on who gets to be fully human. Audio Noir brings award winning narrator Tyla Collier to our downstairs wine lounge to read from a favorite book of ours: I, Medusa by Ayana King. Rhythm & Brunch is back, with DJ SHARDÉA on the decks spinning only women rappers and now with FREE entry. Plus, NY Liberty playoff watch parties are happening at Gladys all month long.

At the end of the month, things get even spookier! Velvet Requiem is our first ever Sapphic murder mystery dinner party, an intimate 3 course dinner hosted upstairs in our book cafe and served with a side of murder and intrigue. Perfect as a solo excursion, friend date, or even date night! Come play a suspect, hear live jazz standards sang by Sasha Thompson, follow the clues, and name the killer before dessert. There are only 15 tickets for this event so act fast!

Finally, we close the month with Sapphic Superstition, a 30+ Halloween soirée with tarot, burlesque, flash tattoos, and two DJs including crowd favorite Timalikesmusic. We believe in affordable fun, so pre-sale tickets are only $10, entry is free for the first hour, and tickets at the door are only $20. Only catch is this event is strictly 30 plus! We can’t wait to see you! All events can be RSVP on our website!

Sooo it's only 1 month until Shadow and Son comes out‼️And you know the audiobook hits when you're screaming over the spicy scenes. 🥵

@simonmaverickbooks have made the Shattered Crown series by @gretchenwritesbooks perfectly. I typically listen to audiobooks while working. But OMGGGGG THIS BOOK. I have to take breaks (before I break down crying).

@snemethparker, Dan Calley and @tyla_collier have brought these characters to life spectacularly and you can hear the emotions in their voice for different scenes and characters.

If you are an audiobook person. I cannot recommend this series enough. The narration, world and journey you go on is incredible.
