Get tickets to Connections//Collisions Cabaret, October 8+9 at Mile Zero Dance! One of the featured artists performing at the Cabaret is Tzadeka.

October 8+9
7:30 PM
$25/$20 MZD Members
Mile Zero Dance | 9931 78 Ave

Tzadeka will present FUTURES IN PROCESS
Futures in Process embodies the idea that the future is not an endpoint, it’s an unfolding process, happening right now. Through poetic reflections on time and space, travelling improvised loop-pedal landscapes, Futures in Process acts as a sort of time-machine transport to possible futures, through a sonic shared-present-moment.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Tzadeka (TZA-deka) is Maigan van der Giessen, an Edmonton based emcee who has been pushing the boundaries since putting out her first tracks with hip hop collective Eshod ibn Wyza (2003). Her creative practice includes music, poetry, ritual-performance, painting and playwriting, in their various experimental forms. She’s evolved into an interdisciplinary artist whose passion for uplifting Edmonton’s local scene (especially our fem-cees), and grassroots community work, is intrinsically connected to her artistic voice as Tzadeka. Her current practice is centered on loop-pedal improvisations, magic-as-method, and world-building through word and sound.

Connections//Collisions is curated and hosted by Indigenous performer / playwright Josh Languedoc.

Here are our entertainment acts for July's edition of Chinatown After Dark

Busyrawk (he him) is a multidisciplinary artist, including b-boy, DJ, muralist, and cultural producer, based in amiskwacîswâskahikan, Treaty 6 Territory. Originally from South Korea, he moved to Montreal in 2010.
Cultural identity sits at the core of his practice. Rooted in hip hop’s origins within marginalized communities, Busyrawk uses his art forms, including his DJ sets, to amplify voices that have been racialized and dehumanized. His sound is deeply influenced by the soul and funk movements of the 1970s, carrying forward their emotional weight and social commentary.
His foundation in breaking led him to the classic breaks that gave birth to hip hop in the Bronx, NYC. From there, his selections expand across that lineage, blending jazzfunk, 90s hip hop, and the sampled records that connect them.

Tzadeka makes music that is unpredictable, clever and magnetic; Female-fronted, Experimental-Prairie-Hip Hop that’s fresh-as-hell! Tzadeka (TZA-deka) is Maigan van der Giessen, an Edmonton based emcee and justice advocate who speaks truth to power whenever she gets on the mic! Accompanied by instrumental wizards, the Murder Hornettes, this trio brings heat and heart to every stage!

Nix Nihil is a musician, a scholar of esotericism and literature, and a rune-reader. Look for Nix at his table if you would like a reading! Runes are the letters of the Old Norse alphabet inscribed on small stones; pulling these stones from a pouch generates stories and inspires personal insight. What will the runes tell? Come see Nix and find out!

Benjamin Williams is a professional musician and entertainer based in Edmonton, whose robust voice and eclectic repertoire has resonated from the stages of Canmore Folk Festival and Big Valley Jamboree, all the way to your local neighbourhood watering hole. His career began with classical guitar studies in 2004. Now a mainstay on the local circuit and beyond, amongst his numerous contributions are an EP titled "Handshake To The World" released in 2016, recording and performing as part of John Hewitt & The New Americans since 2019, leading a tribute to Gordon Ligh
