What does it look like when passion, purpose and perseverance come together?

Meet Matthew Lentz, one of the inspiring alumni featured in this year’s UAB School of Health Professions Alumni Snapshots Magazine. His story is a powerful reminder of the impact our alumni are making and the many ways a UAB SHP education can shape a career and a life of service.

Now that we are over half way done with summer semester, just thought I’d update on everything good in my life! Truly blessed each and every day (even if a clin med exam punched me in the face🤷‍♀️).

We’re excited to introduce the executive team behind Open Doors Initiative!

Open Doors Initiative was created through our Access Subcommittee of ABE, with a simple but powerful belief: exposure creates opportunity. Our mission is to help expand access, mentorship, and career awareness so that more students and aspiring professionals can see what’s possible for their future and step confidently into it.

What makes this work meaningful is the team behind it, a group of student leaders bringing together perspectives in healthcare leadership, strategy, clinical service, and community-building. From UAB’s health services programs, each team member plays a unique role in helping us build something rooted in impact, service, and long-term vision.

This “Meet the Team” series gives a closer look at the people helping shape our mission and move it forward. We’re proud to be building an organization centered on leadership, mentorship, and opening pathways for others.

We’re just getting started, and we’re excited for what’s ahead.

Follow our journey, connect with our team, and stay tuned for what’s next.

Lobby Day was a success! We were proud to have all four PA programs in Alabama represented, united in support of our profession and the patients we serve.

As our first Lobby Day, it was exciting to see students and practicing PAs come together at the State House for a full day focused on advocacy. We participated in press, met with legislators, and sat in on committee meetings. Each part of the day gave us the opportunity to share our story, strengthen connections, and highlight the impact PAs have on patient care across Alabama.

We are especially grateful to Representative Lee for introducing our bill and for his leadership and support. Thank you to the legislators who took the time to meet with us, and to AAPA for their continued guidance and support in advancing our efforts.
