Summer of Pig Lab!🧼🩺

Our PA students spent the summer getting hands on experience in the lab. From practicing suturing and hand ties to scrubbing in and learning surgical instruments, the Class of 2027 has been busy. Students also gained experience with chest tubes and had the opportunity to perform an exploratory laparotomy and practice laparoscopic surgical techniques! #uabpa by @uab_pa

2026 Tie-Off Competition!

We had a blast putting our surgical skills to the test and practicing our one-handed and two-handed ties at this year’s Tie-Off Competition! From speed to precision, everyone brought their best technique and a little friendly competition to the table.

A special thank you to Professor Neighbors and Professor Wood for organizing such a fun, hands on experience, and to our amazing PA alumni for coming out to help, share their expertise, and support our students. We’re so grateful to everyone who helped make this event possible.

Class of 2026 presented their research projects at the annual PA poster symposium! 43 students presented and 9 students submitted their research for publication. We are so proud of them! #uabpa by @uab_pa

The UAB PA Class of 2027 has officially started Pig Lab! Students learned how to scrub in, assisted with a pig laparotomy, heard from a scrub tech, tested their skills in dexterity challenges, and practiced suturing on pig skin. It’s been an incredible hands on learning experience, and we’re just getting started! #uabpa by @uab_pa

The Open Door Initiative (ODI) was created to expand exposure, mentorship, and access to healthcare career pathways for students from all backgrounds. With the public school year coming to an end, we had the opportunity to bring that mission to G.W. Carver High School.

Partnering with @uab_msha, we introduced students to both the Physician Associate and Healthcare Administration fields, discussed different pathways into healthcare, and led a hands-on blood pressure workshop. Seeing the students engaged, asking questions, and practicing clinical skills firsthand was a reminder of how impactful mentorship and exposure can be #uabpa by @uab_pa

A week in Megan’s life!

Meet Megan Marino, a first year PA student. Megan is from Dallas, Texas and attended the University of Alabama, where she majored in Psychology with a minor in Biology. Her favorite part of PA school is “the community I built and the amazing support system they have been! I also feel like I am truly growing both inside and outside of the classroom everyday!” #uabpa by @uab_pa
