One of the most special days of the year! 🌟

This week, PANDA members attended the annual PANDA Bus Trip to the Steele Children’s Research Center in Tucson! 🚌

This impactful day is all about learning WHY we do what we do. It’s an opportunity to meet physician-scientists conducting incredible research, gain hands-on experience in simulation labs, hear from inspiring speakers over lunch, and the part everyone looks forward to most — delivering cuddly stuffed panda bears to patients and their siblings. 🐼

We loved connecting with researchers, learning more about the amazing work happening at the Steele Children’s Research Center, and seeing firsthand how our efforts make a difference in the lives of children and families. We left feeling inspired, motivated, and ready to continue making an impact in the year ahead! ✨

Our hearts (and panda bins) are full! 🤍🐼

Thanks to your incredible generosity, our PANDA community raised $74,230 through Pandas for Patients this year. That's more than 2,100 cuddly pandas ready to bring comfort to kids! ❤️

Here's a fun fact: 646 donors from 31 states joined in this year. Your kindness keeps growing, and so does our reach.

The first pandas will be delivered next week to children receiving treatment, and we can't wait to share their smiles with you. Every gift also helps fund pediatric medical research for healthier futures for kids. 🔬

A huge thank-you to everyone who helped spread comfort and smiles to these brave kids, and a big shout-out to @lernerandrowe Gives Back for their continued partnership and generosity, helping us reach even more children this year.

As always, a big thank you to our supportive partners:

Our second Teens of Steele event brought together 24 incredible kids in grades 5–11 to explore the important and complex topic of cancer. We loved seeing so many familiar faces—and welcoming new Kids of Steele families, too!

Our teens got a hands-on look at the IMMUNE SYSTEM and the amazing ways our bodies work to protect us. After learning about T cells, NK cells, memory cells, and more, they worked in groups to create their own “immune system superheroes.” They even created immune systems using food!

Then it was time to think like scientists! 🔬 Our teens toured a real cancer research lab and learned how researchers study the human body—from exercise testing and blood draws to isolating “good” cells and freezing them for future research. It was such a unique opportunity to see science and cancer research happening right in front of them.

To finish the event, our teens gave back by creating special happiness bags for cancer patients. 💛

A HUGE thank you to Megan, Michelle, Sadie, Rani, and Kat for sharing their time, knowledge, and passion with our teens. And a very special thank you to Lori Castro and the Steele Children’s Research Center for helping make this meaningful experience possible.

Thank you to every family who joined us. We are so excited to continue growing Teens of Steele and creating opportunities for our kids to learn, connect, serve, and make a difference. 💙

The third front in the PANDA Catalyst for Cancer Research is a breakthrough in the making.

Neuroblastoma accounts for roughly 15% of all childhood cancer deaths. Dr. Steven Scoville is working to change that — harnessing the body’s own natural killer cells to recognize and attack these tumors, offering new hope to children whose cancer hasn’t responded to conventional therapy. PANDA is helping build the lab where that work happens, at Steele Children’s.

Physician-scientists are trained as both doctors and researchers — able to carry a breakthrough from the lab bench directly to the children they treat. Arizona doesn’t have enough of them. PANDA is funding four promising young physician-scientists at Steele Children’s, and with them, decades of better outcomes for kids.

Dr. Lisa Chamberlain on why the people may be the most important investment of all. 🥼🐼🥼

Most cancer research asks how we treat the disease. This research asks a different question — how do we stop it before it starts? For children with inflammatory bowel disease, who face up to four times the colorectal cancer risk, that question could change everything.

Dr. Lisa Chamberlain explains the science PANDA is funding at Steele Children’s Research Center. 🥼🐼

This September, for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we’re proud to introduce the PANDA Catalyst for Cancer Research — our 2027 initiative funding three fronts in the fight against childhood cancer, all at Steele Children’s Research Center.

Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in American children, yet it receives less than 4% of federal cancer research funding. In Arizona, that gap runs even deeper. The Catalyst is how we help close it — by funding the prevention research, the people, and the breakthroughs that turn today’s discoveries into tomorrow’s cures.

Three fronts. One goal: a healthier future for kids.

Follow along all month as we go behind the science with the leaders making it possible. 🐼
