It’s Black History Month and here we are featuring Angolan-French poet Landa wo, an immigrant writer who has read many of his poems for the Irish Poetry Reading Archive, which are preserved for future generations in UCD Special Collections.

His poems have appeared in literary journals and anthologies in Ireland and abroad, and his manuscript ‘Poet in Exile’ was a finalist for the 2023 Patrick Kavanagh Award, among other recognitions.

Here he reads his poem ‘Chila Menga’ (published in Michigan Quarterly Review (Vol. 59, No. 3, 2020). Discover more of his readings and those of other Black poets in the IPRA on the Special Collections website.

Míle buíochas to everyone who turned out at O'Mahony's Booksellers Tralee on Friday evening for the launch of my new book, "From Bullets to Ballots: Politics and Electioneering in Post-Civil War Kerry, 1923-33" which is published by UCD Press. Many thanks to Minister Norma Foley for launching the book, to Bridget McAuliffe on MC duties, to Maureen and Bridget for being such welcoming hosts, and to friends, family and fellow historians for celebrating with me. And huge thanks to Michelle Breen Crean Photography for the lovely images of a most enjoyable occasion. The book is available now in all good bookshops and from www.ucdpress.ie
