"This recognition belongs to the amazing Natal Cares team, our volunteers, partners, and the communities we serve."

Huge congratulations to Aspen Impact West Africa Senior Fellow Uche Udekwe for being named a prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Commonwealth Trust (QECT) Awardee!

After losing a close family member to childbirth complications in 2017, Uche turned personal heartbreak into lifesaving action by founding Natal Cares. Today, his social enterprise leverages mobile tech, low-cost innovation, and machine learning to deliver critical maternal healthcare, medical monitoring, and emergency support to at-risk pregnant women in rural communities across Nigeria.

This global honor celebrates young leaders like Uche driving positive, lasting change.

Some moments change the course of a life. For Uche Udekwe Kenneth, it was the loss of his sister-in-law to preventable pregnancy complications.

In our latest Community Health Advocate Series (Class of 2026),he shares how that personal tragedy transformed a career in project management into a mission to improve maternal and child health across underserved communities.

His story is a powerful reminder that behind every health statistic is a family, a community, and an opportunity to do better.

It has been four months since we held Next Generation Africa: Voices of the Aspen Community with our partners — but we are still under the influence of that magical day!

On April 11, we witnessed the powerful voices and bold visions of changemakers who are often overlooked, yet are at the forefront of tackling Africa’s most pressing challenges — from gender equality and health equity to environmental sustainability and social inclusion.

In collaboration with the Aspen Global Innovators Group, Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs – West Africa, Aspen Global Leadership Network, and Africa Leadership Initiative West Africa, the day was filled with authentic stories, transformative dialogue, and actionable ideas — proof of what happens when young leaders and community-driven initiatives are given the platform they deserve.

Learn more about our incredible fellows who continue to work passionately to drive change in their communities — and across Africa.

"Maternal deaths shouldn't be a norm in any country."

In Nigeria, Uche Kenneth Udekwe, AGI's Impact West Africa fellow, is tackling maternal mortality through mobile technology and policy reform. Natal Cares is saving lives and scaling solutions.

Uche's journey illustrates why leadership development and advocacy training are just as important as direct service delivery.

The Fellowship is a catalyst for Uche- it equips him with the tools, networks, and confidence to take NATAL CARES to the next level.

Our 2024 Impact Report honors the journey of leaders fighting for youth opportunity, climate resilience, and maternal health.

In memory of our late Executive Director Lola Adedokun, we continue the work she championed: investing in people and community-driven solutions.

The numbers show the scale. The stories show the soul.

At AGI, we believe leadership starts with opportunity, investment, and belief in young people. That’s why we are not just supporting changemakers — we are building a next generation of bold, values-driven leaders who are already shaping their communities.

During our visit to Ashesi University, we witnessed this belief in action. Our Impact West Africa Fellows sat down with Ashesi students for an energizing roundtable on leadership, innovation, and community impact.

It was a moment of exchange across generations of changemakers — where experience met fresh vision, and purpose met passion.
