Over the past year, I had the tremendous opportunity to collaborate with Samita Sinha, a gifted singer with the infinite desire to experiment.

We produced a short video titled Song to the Siren, which pays homage to Sinéad O’Connor and how her artistry and politics influenced both of our lives. In it, Samita re-interprets Song to the Siren in such a way that her voice ominously invokes the perils of the ocean both metaphorically and literally in this moment in time.

Commissioned by @pioneerworks and coproduced with @ucscias the piece premiers tomorrow 10/2 in the context of my exhibition When Time Stands Still.

Samita will perform her piece Tremor at 5pm tomorrow, please come by if you’re in the area!

Thank you to @rachelnelson19 curator of the exhibition, whose support means the world to me, and to @davideveritthowe and @gabriel_florenz with whom we’re planning a presentation of this and other works in 2028 at Pioneer Works.

Next Friday, October 2, @Carlosalejandromotta unveils his second solo exhibition with @ucscias, “When Time Stands Still.”

Featuring new and recent installations, videos, and sculptures highlighting the artist’s preoccupation with the historical, aesthetic, and representational productions of difference and marginalization that shape the present. Harkening to the work of Hieronymus Bosch and Albrecht Dürer, the artist finds prescience in their social critique, materializing time through his sculptures as the past regulates the present.

The exhibition is on view October 2, 2026 – March 27, 2027 at The Institute of Arts and Sciences, UC Santa Cruz, CA.
