What happens when you put a materials scientist in a room with contemporary dance artists?

In ‘How Batteries Move,’ @ufsotd dance faculty Xan Burley and Alex Springer are collaborating with Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering materials scientist Megan Butala to explore how choreography and improvisation can illuminate the complex science of lithium-ion batteries.

Through embodied research, they’re exploring new ways to connect artistic practice, scientific discovery and public engagement.

Visit the link in @ufcota bio to learn about the project and preview the upcoming ‘How Batteries Move’ film in this month’s COTA In the Loop news feature story, ‘UF researchers use dance to explore lithium-ion battery science.’

We’re excited to celebrate Kayla Goldstein as she steps into a new role with the Joffrey Ballet School!

After joining our team full-time just a few weeks ago, Kayla has now been invited to join the Trainee and Summer teams as a Program Administrator, officially beginning her new role this week.

Kayla first joined Joffrey Ballet School through our Summer Internship Program, spending the past two summers supporting our programs in both New York City and Las Vegas and taking on leadership roles along the way.

One of the most meaningful parts of our Internship Program is seeing where the experience can lead. Kayla’s journey is a wonderful example of how internships can open doors to new opportunities and continued growth within the company.

Congratulations, @ksgld! We’re so excited to have you continuing on with the our team and can’t wait to see what’s ahead in this next chapter.

👯 From one class to a lasting legacy.

When the Center launched in 1996, Rusti Brandman, co-founder of the UF Dance Dept., and Jill Sonke developed its first course- Dance in Medicine- bringing the arts and health together through education for the first time in the US.

A decade later, the course grew into the Undergraduate Certificate in Dance in Medicine, creating a dedicated pathway for UF students to explore the connection between dance, health, and wellbeing. Since then, nearly 600 students have taken the introductory course, carrying its impact across generations of UF students.

This semester, we’re excited to welcome Dionne Champion, our newest faculty member, who is teaching Dance in Medicine, moving this 30-year legacy forward. ✨
