We are thrilled to announce this semester's DSC guest artist Kenny Fresch. This gator alum will be joining us in the studio October 30 during our Friday Movement Practice. Make sure to join us for a contemporary practice class full of floorwork, improvisation and more.

Kenny Frechette is a queer, Florida-born dance & performing artist currently living in Portland, Oregon. As a performer they’ve worked in an array of dance & interdisciplinary contexts for stage, film, festivals, art installations, and site-specific pieces across several cities. They regularly teach contemporary dance, floorwork, and soft acrobatics around Portland, conduct studio research for solo and collaborative creation, and are continually investigating how to deconstruct/adapt/re-imagine dance practice for the times we live in. by @uf.dance

What happens when you put a materials scientist in a room with contemporary dance artists?

In ‘How Batteries Move,’ @ufsotd dance faculty Xan Burley and Alex Springer are collaborating with Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering materials scientist Megan Butala to explore how choreography and improvisation can illuminate the complex science of lithium-ion batteries.

Through embodied research, they’re exploring new ways to connect artistic practice, scientific discovery and public engagement.

Visit the link in @ufcota bio to learn about the project and preview the upcoming ‘How Batteries Move’ film in this month’s COTA In the Loop news feature story, ‘UF researchers use dance to explore lithium-ion battery science.’
