⚡️We are incredibly proud to share that a new generator has been delivered to a school in Poltava Oblast, turning the energy of the festival into real, practical support for children and their school community.

This is the power of coming together. Every ticket, every screening, every volunteer, every conversation and every donation helped create this result.

UFFA was more than a film festival.
🤝 It became action.
🫶 It became support.
💪 It became impact.

Australia watched. Ukraine felt the impact.

As we reflect on the Ukrainian Film Festival Festival Australia - Brisbane 2026, we would like to sincerely thank everyone who attended, volunteered, partnered with us, and supported the festival. Your enthusiasm and commitment helped make our inaugural festival a remarkable success.

Together, we achieved some outstanding results:

• 548 admissions across the festival program
• 83,306 people reached through cinema audiences, media, social media and online engagement
• $65,183 raised during the festival period in support of Ukraine
• 9.6/10 average audience recommendation score

These figures represent more than numbers. They reflect a community coming together to celebrate Ukrainian cinema, amplify Ukrainian stories, and build greater understanding through culture.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to the founding members of the @uff_australia. What audiences saw on screen was the result of hundreds of hours of volunteer work behind the scenes. This festival was built entirely through the dedication of volunteers committed to sharing Ukrainian stories with Australian audiences.

We hope this inaugural festival is the beginning of a long-standing annual tradition. Encouraged by the overwhelming support from audiences, partners, and the community, we have already begun planning for Ukrainian Film Festival Australia 2027 and look forward to bringing even more outstanding Ukrainian films and cultural experiences to audiences across Australia.

There’s so much destruction caused by russian attacks on Ukraine. And yet, amongst war and all this devastation, there is still a glimmer of hope. I saw it and felt it firsthand when I recently visited a school in Ukraine to deliver a generator from Future Ukraine’s (@futureukraine_australia) “Warmth for Ukraine” campaign.

When I travelled to a small town in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, I didn’t know what to expect. All I knew was that this was a pre-frontline area that is regularly targeted by russian attacks.

When I entered the classroom to meet the children, I felt nervous. I wasn’t sure what questions to ask or whether the children would feel comfortable opening up to a stranger. So I started by telling them where I was from and asked what they knew about Australia.

Their eyes immediately lit up! 🫠
Different answers came from the room:
“Oh, Australia has lots of spiders!”🕷️
“And snakes!”🐍
“There are kangaroos there!”🦘
“And deserts!” 🏜️

I then asked: “Do you know what language they speak in Australia?”
One child confidently replied, “Of course we know - they speak Australian!” Another quickly interrupted: “No silly, they speak English!” We all burst out laughing 🤭

When I asked the children about their dreams, some said they wanted to become professional singers 🎤 and gymnasts 🤸‍♀️, others wanted to be boxers 🥊 and farmers 🧑‍🌾. One little boy, Mykhailo, quietly said he only had one dream: for his dad to come home from the war🥺

I left that school carrying both heartbreak and hope with me. Heartbreak for everything these children have already endured, and hope because despite it all, they continue to dream, to laugh, and to believe in a better future.

If you would like to support Ukraine, one way you can help is by attending the Ukrainian Film Festival, where we will also be fundraising for generators to support more children across Ukraine. Even the smallest act of solidarity reminds Ukrainians that they are not alone.
