September survival tip: MASTER THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES OF CLASS.

BEFORE September is over, lock this part of your instruction down. I always found myself helping teachers in my school who struggled with classroom management because it was the thing I thought about, practiced, and cared about most. This one tip sounds SO simple but made all the difference for me…especially with 12 years of teaching freshman.

Comment “FIRST FIVE” and I’ll DM you a folder with all the entry slip versions I used. You can use them as is or just as inspiration.

I am sure many of you already do this. But in case there are some who haven’t thought of it this way, I wanted to share. This, in my experience, was the biggest indication of how the rest of the lesson would go.

So many people loved the ID.me post and @adidas really came through with the 30 percent for me the other day.

But… I can’t keep track of the discounts and benefits we get as both UFT and NYSUT members bc there are so many.

I made a one page DISCOUNTS AND BENEFITS CHEAT SHEET to print out and remind yourself of the stuff we get access to.

Comment “PRINT” and I’ll send it to you— as well as a clickable version where you can learn more about the discounts.

Basically, if your paying for sesame place— full price in your AT&T bill, or you don’t have the CALM app downloaded for free, you’ve been living different than you needed to be.

I’m sure I missed some, and things are always changing so just use this as a visual guide.

Also…comment with benefits you use that maybe others don’t know about.

As a CL, many of my members needed guidance on how to renew their para certification, how to apply, steps they needed to take, who could assist them & certification requirements for Level 1, 2, & 3. #backbone INFO- SLIDE 1; SALARY SCHEDULE; SLIDE 2; UFT EDUCATIONAL PARAPROFESSIONAL TITLE INFO(step code, how many credits needed, education and/or experience needed); SLIDE 3-6 Certification requirements and Certification Services available to ALL Paraprofessionals. Also, it is so important that you frequently check your TEACH ACCOUNTS. (CTLE, Mandated Workshops, etc.)

There are a lot of ways to make some extra money in the DOE. Here are five (or 6? Did I count wrong?) and a bonus.

It’s a little document that puts together more details about each, helps with how much you can make and includes links to help you learn more.

Remember I’m not perfect so always check with your school or your chapter leader. But I think it’s pretty good and accurate (and checked with some good sources on this too.)
