At Academy 2025 Boston, I was honored to receive Second Place for Best Student Abstract in Vision Science. This year, at Academy 2026 Anaheim, I received First Place for Best Student Abstract in Vision Science, alongside Rachana Kafle and Rakesh Maldoddi, who received second and third place, respectively.

This milestone means much more to me than the titles alone. The progression reflects the value of persistence, thoughtful scientific inquiry, and continually raising the bar for the quality and clinical relevance of my work. More importantly, it demonstrates my commitment to generating rigorous evidence that can translate into meaningful advances in patient care and contribute to better diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

I am deeply grateful to my mentors at the University of Houston College of Optometry (@uh_optometry) for their guidance, critical feedback, and trust throughout this journey. I am equally thankful to the American Academy Of Optometry’s Vision Science SIG (@aaopt) for creating a community that values rigorous scientific exchange.

From second place to first — the recognition is deeply meaningful, and the growth, rigor, and progress behind it make this achievement even more rewarding. Looking forward to carrying this momentum into the next stage of my career.

What does it really take to build a private practice that stands out? 👀

We brought the Build & Design Workshop to the private practice club at UHCO with Andrew Fader from Eye Designs to give future ODs a look at the business side of ownership and what goes into creating a practice beyond great patient care.

Because the patient experience starts before they ever sit in the exam chair.

The space. The details. The strategy. It all matters.

Giving students a chance to explore it now can give them a real edge when it’s time to build something of their own.
