The State of Stewardship📷🛣️
Idaho➡️Missouri

Some photos from the first week of my 30 day cross-country tour archiving stories around ‘stewardship’. I’m asking everyone the same three questions:

‘What is stewardship?’
•
‘Do you see yourself as a steward?’
•
‘What are you stewarding?’

I fundamentally believe if we want to move from systems of garbage fire extraction to systems that support healthy people, communities, and ecosystems we needs more people to see themselves having a role, see themselves as stewards. I’m curious what that looks like in action and we develop it.
•
The State of Stewardship is one of three projects under the company I launched this month, the Stewardship Development Institute. SDI is focused on growing stewardship across Culture, Ecosystems, and Economies. Our goal is to advance the field of stewardship through research and project development, creating the tools, media, methodology and educational resources that help develop our capacity to care for the systems we depend on and are responsible for.

Reach out if you want to collaborate or partner❣️

Honored to have the Nick from @ujimastl touch down on our historic property. We envisioned a future of camping with his team and talked about how we can partner with their youth program in the future.

Thank you Nick for following through - we appreciate it. 💪🏾💪🏾

Want a break from the city? DMs are open.

ATTENTION all you wanna be veggie growers and seasoned gardening vets. You need to tune in this Saturday as I talk with Nick Speed from Ujima & George Washington Carver Farm.

We'll discuss the importance of his work with not only Ujima & his urban farm, but also his program, The Sunflower Institute and the launch of Teen Mental Health First Aid workshops. Nick was born and raise in the STL, so we'll also dive into the historical significance of Fairground Neighborhood.

I am excited to be speaking with Marguerite Holloway about her book "Take to the Trees: A Story of Hope, Science, and Self-Discovery in America's Imperiled Forests".

The book combines her experiences at a women's tree climbing workshop with scientific insights on threats like drought and disease, and personal reflections on her family.

If you've read the book, call in or text your questions during the show. If you haven't read the book, consider ordering from a local book seller like @leftbankbooks

We need your help this Saturday!

earthday365 is partnering with @ujimastl for an MLK Day of Service from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm in Penrose. Join us as we support a Black-owned farm preparing to feed the community through mulching fruit trees, starting seedlings indoors, cleaning up around the farm, and organizing the office.

This is a hands-on opportunity to give back while supporting food access, environmental justice, and community resilience.

All volunteers will enjoy snacks and drinks! Sign up at the link in bio 💚

💥 It's time for our first Environmental Justice Day of Action in 2026!

You helped George Washington Carver Farms (GWCF) make incredible progress in 2025, and we're keeping the momentum going with another clean-up on January 17th.

Spend Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend supporting a Black-owned non-profit farm that is actively fighting food apartheid and environmental racism in North City. Your contributions will help GWCF get ready to feed the community! There will also be food and drinks for everyone.

Volunteer activities include litter clean-up, farm projects, mulching around fruit trees, starting seedlings indoors, and organizing the office.

Tools and gloves will be provided. Please sign up at the link in bio! 💚

It’s Ujima Day 🥰🫶🏽🔥 One of the pillars of Kwanza meaning “Collective Work & Responsibility.” Show some love & support for @ujimastl a 501(c)3 organization helping youth, running @georgewashingtoncarverfarms & being a key resource & blueprint for how St. Louis & the world can do better.

I’ve been in the mix since 2020 & literally changed so much for me. Made me realize what’s truly important. How to run a nonprofit. And how to properly serve.

Do yourself a favor & tap in, follow, donate & share. It’s all about the COLLECTIVE. Feel me?
