UMass Stockbridge School of Agriculture Turf alumni Ryan Bjorn and Chris Hurley are helping manage the pitch for FIFA World Cup matches at Boston Stadium, ensuring one of the game’s most important playing surfaces meets the highest international standards.

Another academic year comes to a close for the UMass Turf Club and it was one for the books! Started off by fundraising for our trips to the national GCSAA and SFMA shows, sending a total of 9 students to them and having a turf bowl team win 6th place! We hosted numerous guest speakers from all side of the industry, and visited Gillette Stadium and Savage Sod Farm. Special thanks to all professors, industry professionals, alumni, and students for making this year great! Looking forward to what’s to come next year! Good luck to everyone at their summer internships and congratulations to all seniors! #turflife #gcsaa #sfma #goumass

The Turf Club is coming off a strong fall semester and leaf cleanup season! The Club traditionally has fundraised by completing leaf cleanups for residents of the Amherst community and these funds help us attend national GCSAA and SFMA conventions and compete in their collegiate turf bowls. We are proud to be sending teams to both conventions this winter, great work everyone, Go UMass! #turflife #turfgrass #umass #gcsaa #sfma

Back to School 🏫 📕 🍎

One of the most rewarding parts of being part of @andoverlandscape is the opportunity to welcome interns from my alma mater, the @stockbridge_sch and @umasslarp at @umass . It’s the same place that shaped my own path, and now we’re proud to invest in the next generation of green industry professionals. Grateful for the chance to give back and proud to stand alongside this talented group of young individuals who worked hard all summer.

🌟Alumni Spotlight:
Meet Peter White, (A.S. Turfgrass Management ‘11 and B.S. Plant, Soil, & Insect Sciences ‘13) Stockbridge alum and new superintendent of Ekwanok Country Club in Manchester, Vermont!🏌️🏌️‍♀️🏌️‍♂️

As a Stockbridge student, Peter served as President of the UMass Turf Club. “We organized lawn renovations and fall leaf cleanups around the Amherst area to raise money to fund the trip [to the national GCSAA Conference and Trade Show].” Peter and his team won 1st place in the Turf Bowl Competition, which marked the highest placement after several years of top five finishes. “As part of winning the competition, John Deere sent us to volunteer at a PGA Tour event, and we got to help prepare TPC Sawgrass for the 2013 The Players Championship. Such an amazing reward for four years of hard work.”

Now, Peter will implement both aesthetic and agronomic improvements to the course while fostering a positive culture amongst staff.⛳️

💫💫Congratulations, Peter!
